How much does colocation cost in nyc?

Anyone? I've got a project that needs to have decent amount of bandwith, so colocation would be the way to go.

If you need 1Mb up and down you don't need colo. You can get a T1.

umm T1 is at least 250 a month, colocation for 1U is about 1/5th of that

Umm, I'd love to know what colo lets you just rent 1U. Normally the lowest they'll go is a half-rack.

A lot do actually. It's called "shared co-location"

And you feel safe with that? That means you'll be in the same rack as a bunch of other people.

I can't see the harm. You only get escorted access to the cabinet and you're on a private vlan.

obviousley it's not as good as having your own private cabinet, but it's a great option for people who want to co-locate a small number of boxes on the cheap

I just looked in NY and it's not going to save you much over a T1. $30/mon for 1U. $140/mon for 1Mbps. You'll be at least at $170/mon and you have to drive to colo and you'll only have 1U worth of space. For an extra $70/mon a T1 seems a much better solution. You can grow the servers, you'll have access, etc....
