How much does Church cost ?

How much does it typically cost to join a church ?

Trying to decipher this:

"The decision to join is an important step in one?s relationship with the church, signifying a commitment of financial support and participation in the life and work of the congregation."

My Church is free.

Same here.

A church expects donations to allow it to survive and cover their expenses. Some may expect harder than others.

Well, as I don't go to church, I have no idea. However, I don't know of any church that has a specific "cost". However, a contribution of what you can afford is almost expected *shrug*

It costs nothing to join a church. The financial support is what is called tithing. A church is not a business, so the staff, building, events, and everything is paid for by the members of the church. It has been that way for thousands of years.

I remember once as a child sitting at the end of a pew (sp?). The guy came around with the basket. I waved my hand as to say, "no I am broke" and the guy said to pass it down.

Havn't been back since.

The diocese of a particular sect will back the creation and payment for a Church, if they see a need/demand for one in a given area. Typically churches that grow faster than others and maintain a large membership will recieve more attention from the diocese.

I've never heard of a church charging anything. However, they do need donations to stay afloat. So if you go there long enough and people notice you aren't donating you might not be accepted as much into the church community.

The donations aren't like madatory donations, right ?

It's hardly a donation if it's mandatory.

Well, I mean, are you going to be looked down upon and shunned by the others
if you don't "donate"

Most protestant christian churches require 10% of your reported income based on what they believe Jesus told them. it's called "tithe", and it's one of the reasons i quit going. at the age of 15, they sent me a letter telling me i "owed" them >$250 when all i had was a paper route. as soon as I got a job, i quit going....greedy bastages.

First, you can attend services without being a member of the church. A church that's not full of sh|t, anyway. What you might be thinking about is tithing, which is different. Read about it in scripture if this isn't just a flamebait thread.

... why would that be cause for you to not return to church?
