How Much Does Car Paint Cost?

Yeah this maybe a little board, but I have no data in this field.

What I'd like is a good quality black paint.

The car I have right now is a 97 Eclipse and it's black, but I will be repainting it due to scratches and added a rear spoiler, so that needs to be painted.

Also I have a carbon fiber hood, but I heard that it's possible to paint that if the painter (I guess thats what you call them?) is good. Then again, I could save paint by not painting that area... :)

Also i guess I'd need to know the cost of primer and is what else would I need to take into account? (other than laber, which is basically free for me...)

I'll be taking tests all day tomorrow and working later, so I'll check up on this thread Tuesday if I don't get any chance tomorrow! :)

He's asking for the cost of paint, not a whole paint job (most of which is labor anyways). Anyways, cheap paint will start near $100 a gallon (maybe even cheaper), the most expensive paint can easily reach $300+ a gallon. And that might not even include the cost of the reducers and hardeners which are also needed in addition to the paint.. I dunno the exact cost of primer but it shouldn't be more than $100 to do your whole car.

Laugh if you want but I panted a car doing this and know a panter that did this also. Go to whatever tractor place that sells whatever color paint you want. The paint they use on tractors is fairly good and its cheap as dirt usually. I think international sells black.

Hehe I woke up early to read the replies (before school).

Thanks for the tips so far guys. It looks like $100 for some decent paint? But I'm not sure if I want to go to a tractor place to get paint for a car. I forgot to say this will be a show car and I'll be taking it around country this summer time, so I guess I'd need some pretty nice paint.

What I'd be interested in knowing is how much gallons usually goes into a car this size and of course how much a gallon it costs. Um on the quality, it would have to be at least as good as from the factory, so whatever that means. :D

Well talked to my friend at the body shop and he says it will probably run close to $1k for a good paint job. I guess I can live with that. :-/

He has his own body shop and has painted my past rides before, comes out looking like the cars came out of the factory. :)
