How much does a programmer make ?

Depends on where you're located. And what you do. Here in southern california, the avg salary is approx between 52k and 74k.

If you've been working for 5 years, shouldn't you already know the answer to this? It depends on the job and your experience/skills.

my friend graduated from berkeley not too long ago and landed a job @ Boeing for 60K a year as start pay...not too shabby...

In the midwest it is often about $50k a year for a programmer with 5 years experience. Things do vary quite a bit though depending on who hires you. One major consern with programming jobs is that often the best jobs are in locations where the cost of living is astronomical - meaning that they may be very poor even with a high salary.

I thought that it should be around 70-100K. Then someone came up with like 200K

Well, I graduated in 1999 so I'm round around that 5 year mark. My salary is in the low range of what you thought it should be.

Depends on alot...
- what your resume looks like after 5 years
- what, exactly, you do. "Programmer" is a very broad term
- area of the country
- industry
- etc

I would say 100k on the top side. 40-50k starting out.

Maybe little more/less in some areas and depending on who you work for etc.

This reminds me. The funniest thing I saw the other day was a companys software that was coded in
qbasic of all langs.

It's called jobs are going overseas to India for cheaper labor. The standard cost of living is definitely not the same as here so they can afford to pay them less in USD.

Stick with US. I am purely talking in terms of the US market.
