How much does a GPU benefit from a memory overclock?

I have a laptop with a gtx 950m. I heard it's possible to OC the thing to 960m because the two are essentially the same card. On nvidia inspector, there are two overclock options, GPU core clock and memory clock. Memory can be overclock much higher than the cores. Which one of the two should I max the OC to get the most performance and least heat output? Is memory OC more beneficial than the cores?

Depends on the game. Some games are memory intensive so benefit a lot, while others won't benefit at all.

With my gtx 670 when I overclocked the memory from 6 to 7 "GHz", a 16,6 % overclock performance went up by a little over 5%.

Not done any tests with my other cards though.

Your 950m will like a memory overclock. Be sure disable Intel Turbo Boost first to let the GPU have all the thermal headroom it needs.
