how much does 128bit wep slow down traffic?

Hi - so I finally got around to securing my WRT54G - 128bit wep, mac filtering, and ssid broadcasting is turned off. I'm a bit worried because recently I read that 128bit wep can slow down your connection? How much of a difference is it? BTW - my WRT54G is running the latest sveasoft build and my wifi card is a Dell Truemobile 1400 mini pci

Simple answer:

Not enough to NOT encrypt. Especially if you are just using it for web browsing. Transferring huge files between wireless PC's may show a bit of a hit, but wireless itself is a bad choice for that anyway.

I run AES on my wireless...from what I've read, it should be faster and your equipment should support it. And I'll echo what vi_edit said, not enough to not encrypt.

Wow I have a great idea.

Transfer a 10 MB File with and without the WEP and see the difference.

However as n0cmonkey wrote: I think it depends on the hardware.

On some hardware it is hardly notable, other might lose 40% of the ?Speed?.
