personally, $25.

The rule is 20%, so the norm would be ~$18. I tip more because I worked in food for a while. $5 per person is what I usually do.

I'd tip no more than $10, since it is a buffett after all. Is it true that Asian people don't tip? I went to a Korean restaraunt a couple of times with a friend, who is from Korea, and he said they don't tip.

In Korea, there is no such thing as tipping.

I don't tip because society says I have to. Alright, I tip when somebody really deserves a tip. If they put forth an effort, I'll give them something extra. But I mean, this tipping automatically, that's for the birds. As far as I'm concerned they're just doing their job.

One thing to watch out for: at buffets often the person doing the work isn't the person getting the tip.

My wife worked at Valentino's pizza for ~2 years. She was a hostess. The host/hostess at Valentino's will setup the table, seat the family, get their drinks, takes care of the bill, AND cleans up the table at the end of the meal. The waiter/waitress task is to ask if they want the buffet or to order from a menu (which maybe 1% do). Guess who gets the tips: yep the waiter/waitress who does almost nothing.

At a buffet, I tip $1 per person. But then I don't eat at buffets that are over $7 per person.

In Russia, the buffet tips you.

Buffet = $0. I'm not tipping someone to bring me a drink. How is that worth more than minimum wage?

buffets should be tipped as usual. They clear your plates every time you get up, get you drinks, refill the food station etc. If anything it may be more service than regular restaurants

What the hell, I hate you people, 15% is 'the norm', and that is only if they do their job. Because of people like you they give people like me a dirty look when we give them that much which is more than they deserve with that kind of job, no education or real skills required.

Plus this a buffet... was there someone bringing you drinks?

Tipping is a form of income for waiters. They are paid below the minimum wage. Their job is to serve YOU and be paid by YOU.

Tipping is the most effective system when service is involved. It makes YOU their boss and YOU determine how much their labor is worth. No other system ensures acceptable service as well as the tipping system.

So when they are "just doing their job" they deserve to be paid. And that payment is up to you.

Think about that the next time you're waited on.

BTW, if you fail to tip quite often, and eat out at the same place with regularity, you just may find that the level of service sucks. That would be entirely your fault.

Tipping standard 15% at a buffet is insane and totally unjustified. In a normal restaurant, one waitress might be in charge of about 6 tables. At a buffet its not uncommon to be in charge of up to 20 tables (depending on the restaurant) because they require much less individual attention. They'll still earn a living with a small tip due to the volume.

i dont believe in tipping. hehehehe

$90 ~ $15 or something.

10% is $9 i tip around 15%-20% depends on the waitress
