How much do you think you've lost from selling textbooks to school?

I went to the school bookstore today to sell 5 books. All bought within the last year. Two of the books ($120 for both) are going to be changed next semester, and three of them ($150 total) I got $13...

I'd sell online, but I'd rather take a small loss than ship heavy books..

I was going to keep them but I don't see a point since I'll never be reading them again. The three books I sold can be had cheaply this year for some reason.

The weird thing is, I don't even look through the books.

So, total loss for me was $257 in books.

Next semester I'm not gonna buy any.

but have longer to wait for a return

I lost about 70 dollars earlier this week...for getting 11 dollars back for an 80 dollar book.

crap...but 11 is better than nothing.

what I do is wander around the bookstore and look for people who are looking for the old books I have. Just knock like $5-$10 off the used book price that the store sells for. I feel like a book scalper. Of course this only works if you know for sure that those same courses will use the same books next semester.

i guess the publisher changed chapter 3 to chapter 8 and vice versa. of course your school has to order the 78th edition now. i hate how the textbook publishers work

My first two years, I lost a lot. Then I started keeping my engineering books, so i lost a lot more. THEN I started buying most of my books online.....and they were cheap.

The part that pisses me off is that the books for the subjects where people learn the least are the ones that get the most cash back. English majors get a majority of their cash back (>50%).

I don't even bother selling my math books back anymore. I got $10 last semester so I'm just going to keep them from now on.

On the other hand, I took two elective classes this semester (Financial Accounting and Intro to Psychology) for which I paid $110 and $50 initially. I got back $35 and $25, more than my last 2 semesters with 4 books each semester combined. College book stores are a travesty.

I never sell 'em back. They're like badges of honor. Besides, our school rips us off. My CNA book, frex, cost $75.00. They buy it back for $8.00. Next quarter it'll be on the shelves for $75 again...
