How much do you think the average guy can bench press?

Just out of curiousity.... And I don't mean "the average guy who lifts weights". If you just grabbed 100 random guys off the streets of the USA and stuck them in a weight room to see how much they could bench, what do you think the average would be?

avg? Up to 75lbs.

i say 185-thats pretty basic for a normal guy

I dunno about that. My friend just got a weight bench and neither he nor his roommate can do more than about 75lbs.

You mean average guys that post here.......or average guys? ;)

I would guess a random sampling of the US population would give you a 100-125 pound average.

No way. Maybe for your average guy that works out. Not your average guy.

<- lifts every day, benches 205(not bad for being 5'6" and 140 pounds)

You're on crack.

I'll say for a max press, probably a 35 on each side, so that'll make 35+35+40 (bar) = 110

The most accurate post yet.

Yeah if these random guys were picked up in Bumblefvck, NE, homeland of farmers who physically work everyday for a living, then maybe 185lbs would be an avg... but off the street, no way above 100lbs... I'll stick to my guess of 75lbs.

When I started working out last year, I hadn't lifted weights in years. I started doing sets of 10 with 90-100 lbs. So the average would probably be in the 100-125 range.

That's what I was thinking. Max rep, bust a nut, heave and grunt to get it up kind of bench press.
