How much do you think is a reasonable amount to pay for a cell phone?

With all the incentives and special deals these days I find myself wanting a top of the line quality phone for between $0-100... I honestly couldn't see myself paying the $350 for only a phone. If the $350 phone had a 2mp digicam I might consider it but we are talking just the phone no PDA or digicam.

Do you people readily pay more than $100 for new cell phones?

Hmm... let's see the rundown of what I've paid for phones:

Nokia 5190 (VoiceStream) - $100
Samsung 3500 (SprintPCS) - $150
Samsung 8500 (SprintPCS) - $0 (warrantied)
Samsung N400 (SprintPCS) - $150
Sanyo 8100 (SprintPCS) - $50 (had credit from my warrantied N400)

I think if I would have had the $300 for the Samsung A500 before I bought my N400... I would have bought it.

I used to have one of the top of the line color phone for AT&T, the t68i. Was a cool toy for a while, I mean its just all flashy and cool and just fun to toy with.

Had all these gimmicks that I never used. The web on current phones is utterly useless. The crappy games might now be in color, but theyre still crappy games. I only used it for one thing and one thing only, making calls.

Sold it for $150 plus and bought a $50 nokia phone. Does the exact same thing, and is all that I need. Buying an expensive phone is a waste of money unless youre loaded.

With Cell phones, you honestly get what you pay for. Never get the phones that they give away, and most times a <$50 isn't worth it.

My first phone was free, my Samsung S105 was $300 with $250 in rebates (still waiting on those).

I honestly don't see myself paying over $100 for a phone, I don't really care about having the latest & greatest. My first phone lasted me nearly two years, the S105 will likely last me just as long.

I do have to admit, though, the S105 is a fun little toy.

my phone was like $50 when I signed up for service, and it works fine. I don't need to play games on it or take pictures with it or any other crap.

my sony ericsson t300 w/ t-mobile was $20. it came with the camera attachment. $29.99 a month. it has a color screen and the plan includes email and aim with my minutes. it also has limited surfing but the screen is too small to make it practical at all.

I've had 3 cell phones. The first 2 were Nokia 51xx series. A little bulky, and not very pretty, but they worked and were reliable. They were the "freebie phones" that came with my plans.
I now have an 8260 that my friend gave me when he bought his new phone.

To date I have never paid for a cellphone. I kinda want one jam-packed with cool features, but at the end of the day, I can' justify the expense to myself.

I would never pay more than $100 for a new cell phone.

Unfortunately most deals require a 1-2 year committment which should not be a problem provided you choose a GOOD cell phone provider.

Avoid Cingular regardless of where you live.

I don't know much about Cingular. I have been with sprint for going on 9 years now. Granted their customer service sucks but their coverage is amazing. I drove to florida from texas on spring break and never lost signal once; other people in the car were losing signal left and right with other providers. Now I'm on a retention plan with amazing minuites & unlimited pcs-pcs plus since they screw my bill up so often (back to the crappy customer service) I have gotten numerous months totally free! I don't mind a little inconvenience to get a month free ;)

I'd go up to $20 if I had to. The ones I have gotten for free when signing up for a plan make and receive calls just like the real expensive ones.

My wife's free cell phone can do everything we ever needed - it makes and recieves phone calls. Paying money for a cell phone won't improve that one bit. I don't think we ever will pay for a phone.

My Alcatel 310 phone I bought a year ago was $90 at the time, of course it doesn't have any cool features, but I don't think I need them. I like that it's small enough to carry in a pocket and that's all I call, really. I'm more concerned with cell service providers than with physical phones.

I'll drop up to about $100 on one if I renew my plan for a year or so. I don't care if has a camera, games, etc. I just want a small phone, good reception, and voice dialing. My mot t720 gives me that now

I have a Samsung A500 and it is worth every penny. The saying that you get what you pay for is very true. Case in point, I dropped my phone into the washing machine by accident and it was submerged for over twn minutes. I thought there was no hope for the phone until 3 days later it turned back on and worked just fine! The color screen's resolution is another high point of the phone plus its just a sexy piece of equipment. There are few other things I own that I use as much as my cell phone which makes me not regret spending $225 on it when it first came out.
