$20 but it allows my bundle that gives me 1000 free long-distance minutes per month in a bunch of countries on my land line. Thanks to that, I phone my parents 2-3 times a day. :)

I also *had* insurance, until recently when I accidentally went swimming. Turns out that there was something like a 50, or a 100 dollar deductible. So I'm thinking, gee whats the point!

If you're like me and have a PDA phone or smartphone of a sort that is worth $200-$300, then the $50 deductible is worth it. You didn't know about a deductible before purchasing the insurance plan???

EDIT: I am with Verizon and have an older 2-line family plan that is $79.99 with unlimited text and insurance only for my PDA phone. No data or Internet brings my phone plan to about $92/month after taxes.

$30 for my BlackBerry 8310 and my son's Sony Ericsson 580i with unlimited text, email, internet and insurance.

Working for a phone company does have its perks.

Have the $43 or so one from verizon, we don't use the cell much and very little texting. I pimp it out fully and completely with my work-issued blackberry, though and that costs over $100/month with all the data. I would never pay that for a personal phone.

$100 for 1000 minutes that last up to 12 months. Takes me about 10 months to use them, and since I mainly text and my friends do as well it works out. So about $10/month.

company discounted for Verizon so it's $84 after taxes for 4 lines @ 500 minutes. We don't talk that much off-network (free in-calling) but we come pretty close each month on 4 lines. $21/mo. per person after taxes - I hate talking on the phone, but it is a necessary convenience so it's a good price for me.

Company phone, voice+data without any limit. There's nothing better than neffing online as I travel from Madrid to Barcelona at 310 km/h with an active 3g connection :)

Almost feel like just dropping texting all together to save the 5 dollars a month instead of upgrading to a 1000 message plan for another 5 dollars.

Oh yeah, can y'all add your provider too?

$99 + 7 (insurance) + taxes.

Unlimited anytime minutes.
Unlimited texts.
Unlimited data (within reason).
Loss insurance.
Accidental damage insurance.

Yes it is my only phone. Yes it is cheaper than a traditional plan (if you factor in the additional cost of an "unlimited" VOIP line, which is now unneccessary).

family plan for me atm, so $10 for the line and $15 for media-net. When I get my own plan when I get married next September, it'll be $75 for just me and the wife with internet just for me. Add text messaging, $20 and we're looking at $95 a month just for 2 phones. Ridiculous.

I started with Cingular but had no coverage. Switched to Verizon and been with them since. I'm paying $29.20/month (that's after all taxes, extra charges) for a fairly minimal plan, 100 anytime minutes and 500 nights and weekends, all nation calling, no Internet. Don't know if I'm paying too much. Have the same phone I got at the beginning, LG VX4500, which I got for free or almost free with a 2 year plan 4 years ago.

Question:
What's the appeal in texting? I think I've only done it one or two times. Seems to me that it's kind of stupid to punch in letters on a cell phone. So slow. Why not just speak? I don't get it. The time I did it, I guess I was in a crowd at a music festival and couldn't hear.

$0.00 company pays for it.

That's how I started, it was a part time telecommute. Eventually they told me I'd have to get my own cell phone, so I did. That kind of sucks, but I thought I couldn't complain since I was their employee. I actually worked for one of their clients.
