What company quoted you that? $2400/month!?!?! It's higher than your monthly mortgage payment for the house!

2400 a year isn't horrible, but definetly quite a bit higher than the mean.

$2400/year is mighty expensive for homeowners insurance. But it depends on where you live, and of course what kind of coverage you have. I pay about $350/year for $170K replacement cost coverage.

Shop around and you'll find out quickly enough if that's a fair price for your area.

Maybe the house is built on the San Andreas fault underneath a dam with a whole bunch of dried-out dead trees surrouding it, and the OP likes to burn things?

/edit: sounds like a much better deal w/ geico, just compare coverage now. Flood insurance for example.

The difference between the high priced and low priced company when I called for quotes was $1000/yr. I'm closer to $1000 with that policy.

In FL it's hard to even get HOI in many areas, if you can't get it anywhere then you have to go with the state's JUA policy which is basically a fixed price based on the highest price that companies will cover you for. Fortunately that wasn't a problem for me.

/With the rise in home values in the last 2years I'm probably undercovered. I'm afraid to call for an updated quote. :(
