I pay 200/year. It's one of the cheaper gyms around here, but it's pretty big and nice there.

I don't work out at home because I don't have the space for all that stuff. Plus, you have more options when you go to the gym, because they have a whole lot more equipments/machines than you can fit at home.

My friend payed about $500, but he was too lazy and never went. what a waste of money. I joined a gym that's only 15 minutes walk from my house, so I don't have any excuses not to go.

When I was in the SF bay area, "24 hour fitness" was something like $30 a month (I don't remember if there was a "sign up" fee, but if there was, it was probably $50 or so).

In NYC, the cheapest multi-location gym is like $80 a month (ie, new york sports club). Plus, they have crappy hours and aren't even as nice as 24 hour fitness used to be. The "nicer" gyms (new york HRC or equinox) are closer to $100+ a month (which sucks, becuse these are the gyms that have swimming pools and such).

yeah, I hate not having the university's gym nearby...I have a bench and inclined bench at home, but it's nowhere close to the capabilities of the gym. I can only work so many things with that equipment, and it's usually easier at the gym.

But I can't bring myself to drive to a gym and drive back, while paying $30 a month. That's like a center channel speaker for me :)

well... I was thinking about doing a summer only membership and 24 hour fitness and the YMCA are both $150 for the summer... I was not pleased with the pricing :/

A well stocked uncrowded World Gym I pay $39/month and for mrsskoorb (family discount) an extra $20/month.

I am hoping to, once we get a house, build a real gym in my garage. I figure the basics will cost around $1500 for a good rack with a solid adjustable bench and a full compliment of dumbells and an olympic bar with plates. I think that a crappy gym at home is money down the drain, so I want the one in my garage to let me do everything I can at the gym (skipping maybe some non-essentials like cable crossovers) and be of professional or near-professional quality stuff.

I would go for 24 Hour Fitness if i were you if they're the same pricing. YMCA is high because of other activites such as the pool, squash, etc... and it's not 24 hrs... there's nothing like going to the gym at 3am in the morning when you have the urge to.

tell me about it... I'd be scared to even walk in there. It's probably the only gym where you need to dress up to work out in.

$350 a year for a one year contract. The gym is awesome; membership is also valid at all 4 locations in my city.

I use to pay $99 a year for 24 hour fitness, but I let that lapse and now since i have more than just me, I pay almost $100 a month. But thats for 5 people at the YMCA.
