I've got a fiscal emergency on the horizon, so I just dropped from 1.4k to 1k for a family of 8.

But I'm in a moderately lower cost of living location and every meal is home-cooked from as scratch as is reasonable.

So from "thrifty" to "fucking beans and rice again?!".

The big-spending is now all the fresh fruit and veg; but i'm hesitant to cut back on that. The big saver was realizing that a 'serving' of meat is way less than a full chicken breast.

$300-$450 a month for two of us in Europe. Must have been less in CA but I never kept track.

Have to add on a fair amount for eating out too. Without knowing how often people are eating out these numbers are meaningless.

I live alone, i spend between 30 and 45 dollars a week on food. That includes fruit, vegetables, moderate amount of meat ,juices ,milk and cookies. And occasionally some Ben & Jerry icecream.
EDIT: And included are all non eatable products such as for example : Toilet paper, soap. But i do not have to buy that kind of groceries every week. More like once every 2 or 3 weeks.
I do not eat out much.

I have 5 year old triplets and my wife is diabetic so I spend a TON on healthy food. Its so much cheaper to eat like shit but I dont let my kids eat box mac and cheese. I make them a gouda cheese sauce for pasta that they love.

I think I spent 900 at costco yesterday.

We also shop at aldi and have to make our buck go farther by buying bulk and have a big freezer in garage and a separate beverage cooler.

Dont have an exact number since we buy goods at costco too so our numbers are inflated a bit there. 2500 last month on food easy not including taking them out three times.

Before anyone asks why so much we buy fresh seafood and veggies at a local market alot and usually buy a half a cow once a year. Hell we buy tons of fresh fruit and I think I spent over 130 bucks on fruit last week.

Just the two of us ( m26, f 27), and we budget for roughly $120 a month. Sometimes goes over of course, so 100-150 a month. Total was about 600 last month. This also includes non food items, and some stuff on sale we stock up on. Most of the time we buy what we need for the week. Could probably go lower, but enjioy eating well.

You budget $100-$150 and your total was $600 last month. Huh??? I'd say you missed the mark slightly.

I thought you were making six figures a year now.

for the two of us... about $75/week in groceries plus maybe $25 ordering takeout on Friday night and $50-75 going out for dinner/drinks on Saturday.

$200ish per month for myself, including non-food grocery. Usually go for more nutrient-rich/whole grain/"natural" foods, not really in the non-GMO/organic camp. Don't eat out all that often.

$769 per month for 2 people according to my credit card spent details for the last 10 months, and $270 per month for restaurants.

Start in august with a period of three months of un-employment just before my move across the country to start the job. Thus the fiscal emergency. Thanks for taking note!
