Since the hardware board and off-topic board are like night and day, I began wonder, how much do people here know about computers? Does every here (as in off-topic) have a good understanding of them, or are there those that don't know jack but are visiting the Anandtech Forums just for off-topic? I have to imagine that there are a few here that fit the latter description.

I originally started posting here for the hardware forum but I rarely even go there now.

i cant say i know everything, i doubt anyone can claim that, but i do know enough to pay for my living. so i would say if you are asking why i am in at AT, it was becuase of the Hot Deals forum, then moved to OT and now frequent software, tech support, OS, and forum issues.

I know a lot about them, a lot of which I learned from AT. I used to frequent all the other forums, but since I started coming here to OT last summer, I've hardly visited them.

People don't generally come here knowing nothing about computers just to chat. This isn't an AOL chat room, dummy! ;)

Picu, Picu, Picu -

How could you say:

Beneath you.

I know enough about computers to know how little I really know even after being involved with them since 1963, earning my living as a Main Frame Tech Support Customer Field Engineer, Systems Analyst and what have you.

(edit: dont think I am asking this as a joke or to pick people out, this is an honest question I thought of last night. I'm not trying to make fun of anyone, I am just curious)

The universal law states..."It's not WHAT you know, it's WHO you know"

And as far as "how much you know", I play dumb! It keeps the questions low.

Shhhh, don't tell anyone.

Quite a bit. I used to be a straight-up Gen Hardware guy for over a year before I ever even entered OT. --Now I hardly go in GHW anymore. --But I still keep up with it. I know enough that word is out that I'm directly wired to the matrix, and everyone thinks it's my job to help them out. I guess actually it is. Sucks for me.
