If trading cards is gambling, then I'd be into the five digit range. But this poll is strictly gambling for cash. So I probably do about $100 a year in lottery tickets and scratchers.

I don't gamble. My mother dragged me to a casino a couple years ago. It reminded me a lot of church, only smokier. Just a bunch of dead people sitting around with vacant faces.

$0. I used to participate in those office lottery pools but mainly because 85% of our company did, including all the engineers, researchers and C level employees. I didn't want to be stuck going through the bankruptcy that would occur if they won.

I'll go to the casino a couple times a year and usually take $200 - $500. Some of that is for drinks and food though, but most of it is put on the roulette table.

I'm one of those strange people that went to Vegas once and really didn't enjoy it. I may buy a lotto ticket or two every now and then when I'm having a bad week at work, but other than that, I don't. Besides, I have a lot more fun watching the roller coaster swings of my portfolio on a daily basis.

$0 - $100.

I will typically do some Super Bowl square pools. Last year I actually did none though so I gambled $0 last year.

I'm going to Atlantis Bahamas on Saturday and I doubt I'll spend any money in the casino there. When I go to Vegas I don't even gamble.

I'll a Powerball Ticket when it goes over 200 million. I also seem to hit a casino once or twice a year. My real issue is collectible card games, but I manage to keep spending under 500 each year for the most part.

I live 5 minutes from one of the nicest horse tracks in the country. They do spring and fall meets that run a month each. We try and get there for a weekend or two each meet. We'll drop $40 or so bucks each meet. We watch 4 or 5 races and bet $2-4 per race each between my wife and I. We often take the kids with us and have them pick out a few horses and place bets. Sometimes we'll cover our losses, but usually it's $20 loss for 3 or 4 hours of fun. Horse races are pretty interesting and fun to be there in person.

I usually take the kids down to trackside:

Maybe $10/year in lottery. I used to go to the casinos when I lived on the coast, but I'd only ever drop $50 at most. Gambling isn't really my thing.

just the 5% of company stock per paycheck and 6% 401k..

5% does sound like a gamble, considering that you work there. If they have a really bad quarter and decide to lay you off, you end up getting screwed twice. Not only do you lose your income stream, but now you lost a chunk of your nest egg as well.

I kept 7 shares of the last publicly traded company I worked for (1 for every year I worked there, because I'm a sentimental sap like that), and they are the worst performing stock in my portfolio :)

Trouble is, it's impossible to not gamble at all, because life obliges you to constantly make choices based on insufficient data. E.g. "do I quit this secure but dull job for that one that looks more exciting but which might leave me jobless" "do I buy property now because prices appear to be rising so fast I won't be able to if I don't, or do I hope prices come down again" "how do I invest my pension fund?" etc.

For that reason I'm a bit puzzled as to how so many religions make 'gambling' a sin. If it's against his rules, why did God make it compulsory then, eh?

(But I never bet anything on lotteries and such like...if I were to, I'd at least pick some sports gamble where there was some extra entertainment value in it).

Moral is so low at my company that they have blocked all internet access to websites that show the current values of lottery tickets. They also have a policy that forbids employees from pooling money to buy lottery tickets. What they say is that the pooling of money for lottery tickets is a fire-able offense, but on the same note they are VERY afraid that a big lottery will be won and that an entire department will up and quit.

The place is so crappy that they're afraid of 300m to 1 odds? Wow.

Quite a bit, probably in the neighborhood of three thousand. I only go to the casino with my mom, to play bingo. If it wasn't for that I'd never step foot in a casino again and die happy. I spend maybe $5-$10 a year on lotto tickets.
