How much do writers make?

say you were a decent writer, like a newspaper columnist... how much would you get paid?

Rule of thumb for local newspapers here is 5 cents a word.

Starting salary at a non-union paper, I'd guess perhaps 22-26K. It depends on many things, including whether that column is syndicated and what other positions the writer holds-is he a reporter too?
