Hello people...long time no posting...

so i got in a car accident (i swear it was only half my fault):(....i was following this way way to closely when he hit the brakes to make a left turn...i was only doing like 35 so it wasn't THAT bad, i'll post some pics later tonight. i took my car to get an estimate to see how much it will cost to fix it or to at least find out what parts i'm gonna need to get replaced. i got a call today from the mechanic, grand total of $3057. labor alone is $1176, being that i can't afford that and that most men in my family are mechanics, i won't have to put up the money for it (my insurance doesn't cover the damages to my car). anyway, i asked the guy what parts i'm going to need just out of curiosity...the list is as follows...

grills
upper tie bar
left side panel
2 mount brackets
radiator (didn't break, not leaking, but he says it was bent)
fan shroud (fans are ok)
bumper cover
both headlights (although only the left one is actually broken)
left turning signal
a/c condenser
hood
hood lock

according to him, the parts amount to $1548...my question is...how much would these parts actually amount to?

oh...i have a 1999 toyota corolla 4dr CE...

Ok the parts prices depend on if he used aftermarket or salvage parts... if they are all OEM then you can prolly save a ton by using aftermarket or salvage.

Some of those parts you wont be able to get salvage or aftermarket...

give me a minute and I'll get some prices for ya... in the mean time check car-parts.com for possible salvage parts...

yeah id tke it to a couple more shops and get some estimates...i mean theres things there that are totally unnecessary for now (you can bang out your hood enough to drive right? and tie it down with bungee chord?) And then if you dont need ac no condensor needed and I'eve seen plenty of half assed light replacements done with a little tape....grills you can get at home depot (make your own in other words)....the tie bar, panel, mount brackts, and radiator are the only things i see that should be replaced really to make it driveable...all the rest is to make it look good again...

The more important question is: Do you have good insurance? If you do, then it doesn't really matter on how much the parts will cost.

Ok I got about the same total using all OEM parts so I think you can save some money by using aftermarket or salvage parts. But I dont think the guy is ripping you off, I bet he's using the same software I support...

If you want the estimate I wrote up PM me your email addy and I'll send it to ya..

no i don't have good insurance, actually it's pretty cheap...hence the no covering of damages to my car =(. the hood definitely needs to be replaced, the radiator was not THAT bent, the hood bent so it like made the radiator LEAN back. the car is driveable, i drove it home after the accidnet and it wasn't even making weird noises. i don't need the car that badly so i won't drive it around like that, i don't want to cause more damange to it, i can take the bus to school and it's a 10 minute ride, but i like being able to go anywhere whenever. i want my family to fix it cause they'll do a really good job, the car was already in an accident BEFORE i bought it and they didn't do an excellent job fixin it. i want to make it look good again because i'm planning on having that car for a couple more years...and i'm sure my dad will be able to get really good prices on the parts and my uncle works for goodyear so that helps
