Basically, I have a pc and i bought all the parts for upgrading. I bought a new motherboard, graphic card, psu and a new drive. I was wondering how much do pc shops charge for them to fit all the parts for me? I'm assming it wont be alot I mean my pc is not broke, all I need is helping fitting all parts correctly. Does anyone know a rough price they charge? thanks, really appreciated. :D

PLEASE dont tell me to fit them yourself and watch tutorial. I dont have the time etc etc :(

I think frys will build you a PC for free if you buy all the stuff there.

I can throw together a new PC in under 20 minutes. Probably 10 if I tried.

It's super easy. Search YouTube for great videos and learn yourself.

Yea man, this isn't worth paying someone for. Learn on your own, it's really not hard.

It would take you longer to drive to and from the place than doing it yourself.

I know.. but I cant. Do you know an estimate how much they charge?

This attitude is why Geek Squad is in business.

Seriously; just try it yourself.
The connections are nearly idiot proof. If it fits, that's where it goes; just don't force anything.

I smell a scam here. You bring your "brand new" parts to have them put it together and then magically something doesn't work and its their fault. You had all the time to go spec out parts and order them but don't have time to bolt it together? Pardon me but the whole thing sounds shady.

You may have a point, but assuming the poster is serious, if he lives near a microcenter, they will assemble it completely for about 150.00 I believe. Considering the cpu/mobo deals they have, it could come out near to what assembling it yourself would cost if you had to buy from newegg. I think they have levels of assembly as well, i.e. just doing the most difficult parts like installing cpu/mobo in case, etc.

I know how easy everyone says it is, but I too am reluctant to build from scratch, because I have no one available to advise me if I have difficulty with even one part of the assembly. I am sure after doing it a couple of times, it is very easy, but the first time with no one to advise you is a bit scary.

Edit: I may try it this summer while my 15 year old grandson is visiting.

$100-$150, depends where you live.
It take more than 15 minutes to install the os and get all the updates.

in a situation like this, if you came to my shop, i would charge you $20. its basically like fixing a flat tire. no guarantees, so no reason to charge you that much :). if you wanted the os installed and everything though, i agree its going to cost you around $100.

Same here. I charge $75 for fresh install (OS) and another $25 to put it all together. I just had a kid (maybe ten years old) ask me if I could install the power supply. I'm like, "What???" It's like the easiest thing in the world. Says he has a cousin that "knows" computers. Guess not too much. Probably had a pre-built and learned how to upgrade the OS. Kid decided to have me put together all the parts.

heck, if it was a 10yo kid and he just wanted the ps installed, i doubt i would even charge him. maybe $5. that would hook him young and keep him coming back for life :D

I don't think the cousin knows as much as his family thinks he knows. I was ready to do the power supply for free. I am uncomfortable just doing the hardware. Usually, it's the OS, making sure everything is working and doing all the updates that is the most work. I also like to clean up the wiring, but not before I make sure everything is working properly. I cannot be sure of this if I'm only doing the hardware install.

Can I hear a million?!

Seriously though, my 6 year old knows most of the different parts, and has already installed PCI cards and memory. If he can do it, so can the OP.

I would probably be around $80-$100 as well depending if you had a clear case where you needed all the wires ran neatly and hidden.

What are you all mad at? You're on a tech site full of techies. When I came to this site (in 2002) I was looking for all the answers to pc questions so that I could do it myself. As for getting bent out of shape for someone charging for their services please inform me of where you work and what you do and I'll make the trip down there and ask you to do your job for free for 30 min. to and hour. The only people that I give free service to is family and close friends. I don't charge my mechanic, but then we have an unspoken agreement/barter system. I don't charge him and he doesn't charge me. Then again, I don't take advantage of him and do whatever I can myself. As ch33zw1z says...

lol...time is money dude.

And this is why most reputable shops won't build with a customer's parts.

They MIGHT be willing to build with their parts...and re-use things like optical drives and such...but not a scratch build with customer-supplied parts.

(very few auto shops will install customer-supplied parts either...too much liability for too little gain for them)

It is too much trouble to do custom build for people even if they pay you. Automatically they think you owe them FREE support when something goes wrong, or that they don't know how to use something.
