How much do people charge to cut the grass these days?

My parents are being charged $40 which I think is okay but my aunt told my mom that she thinks they are being charged too much. I used to cut the grass for them and I was really happy to find out that they hired someone to do it so I want them to continue with it. Since I make over $40/hour it seems like it is worth it to pay those guys $40 to cut the grass.

Depends on the yard size. I think $40 is too much, but there are many factors. Weed eating? Bagging? Trees? Shrubs? Equipment Supplied?

We've 1/2 acre and I used to pay $80 per cut and trim which came out to $320 a month. This year we switched to a different company and now pay $60 per cut and trim.

I have no idea how big a yard it is but it usually took me a little over an hour to cut it. I never did any bagging. I think it's a reasonable charge.

I'm in a small town so as I said earlier $40 seems a little high. I guess it depends where you live. Around here if you have a mower and a trimmer you can usually find a neighborhood kid to do it for ~$20, granted you have all of the equipment maintenance.

my daughter (14 years old) was charging 20 for your average lawn in our neighborhood over the summer.

Bushes are normally extra charge. I pay $45/ hour for the first person and $25/ hour for the second person. Effectively $70/ hour for special jobs like trimming bushes and trees.

$60 is only for cutting the grass and edging. Everything else is extra.

I'd say 20 an hour for the length it takes you to cut and trim (no bag). Anything above mow and trim is extra.

It takes me about 2 hours to mow/trim so I'm fine with the 40 bucks I'm being charged.

If it's a professional service then it sounds cheap to me if they're doing the weedwhacker also. It also depends on what part of the country they're in and the size of the property.

Go over to lawnsite.com, its a forum for the people in the landscaping business. You'll be able to get an inside look at what these people charge.

wouldnt that depend on area?

the kids across the street do my 3 acres for $20. thats mowing, weedwacking and picking up any tree limbs etc. My dad owns a house in the nearest town and he has a very small lot. maybe 20x70 and pays $40 for that.

But his other house way down in mariam Il he has 1 acre and pays a guy $15 to do everything weekly.

Jesus, I used to do the neighbors 6 acres (3 on hills next to a river bank) and I'd be lucky to get 15 bucks.

Yeah, depends on who is doing it (kid or pro service) and how big of a lawn. I'd expect a teenager to charge between $15-30 depending on the lawn size, and a pro service to be $50 plus.

$20 to a 13-14 year old boy is a lot of money.

A professional lawn cutting service cut my lot, 90' X 130', for $25 a week. 3 guys, one with a 60" ZTR took like 20 min. to do the job.

My mexicans do it for 20 an hour, landscaping and other tasks as well. Flat rate, no matter how many do the work.

my parents got a quote for 300 bucks a month, and are currently paying 200 bucks a month. There are a total of three front yards though, and pretty good size too. Generally a riding mower size.
