How much do I really need??

Building a new rig and wondering how much Wattage power supply do I really need for a power supply? Currently I have an Antec ATX case and a Antec 550Watt Basiq PS. I am NOT doing any overclocking or tweaking and I NEVER will. Here is what I will have:

-Skylake Intel i7-6700k
-Mid-range Coolermaster CPU Heatsink/Fan
-TBD midrange ATX Intel Z170 based Motherboard for above CPU
-EVGA GeForce GTX 750 1GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 Video Card
-Samsung M.2 950 Pro SSD HD
-Intel X25 SSD circa 2009
-Two internal SATA6 Spindle drives. One 7200RPM the other 5400RPM. I'm pretty sure I may add another SATA6 spindle drive at some pointe later.
-DVD-RW drive
(-May get an separate soundcard if I have to.)

How much power do you think I need? Can you suggest something good for under $100?

550W is plenty for the system you describe.

I'll try that. I went to cooler masters site and they had a calculator and it said I just need a 300 Watt PS. This was a lot closer than a calculator on Newegg. They said I need 520 watts.

The Newegg calculator must use Diablotek watts. :)

I would highly recommend the EVGA Supernova G2 550w.

$79 after mail in rebate at Newegg, and received a perfect 10/10 score at JonnyGuru, and has a 7 year warranty.

Costs a little more than the budget units, but the quality is second to none.

The GTX 750 Ti, which is a step above the 750, doesn't even need an external PCI-E connector. 350-450W is all you need. Now, if you have any inclination to make future upgrades, getting a 550W PSU should set you up for any single graphics card configuration.

But that looks nice also, I do not like buying cheap PSU's myself.

I think the two most important parts of a PC is a good quality motherboard and power supply, if those two aren't solid then the nice GPU, CPU, and fast SSD aren't much use.

I have the 650w G2 for my desktop and the stability of the power it puts out is amazing. My various rails hardly ever fluctuate.

When my son's Corsair CX power supply started having some stability issues after 4 1/2 years, I replaced it with the 550w G2 I linked to. They are just so solid.

Whatever unit you decide on, just Google the model number + JonnyGuru to see his review. He is the best in the business on power supplies. He tests them, opens them up to show you what capacitors are used, the soldering work, wiring, and any concerns. He is really an extremely knowledgeable guy.

Edit: If you are looking at the XFX P1-500B-XTFR, that hasn't been reviewed yet by him and only has a 3 year warranty. It most likely will be XFX's budget unit to compete against EVGA's 100-B1-0500-KR which is a 'Well it's at least not a Leadman or Deer'. ;)

The budget XFX and EVGA models are ok, but there are much better.

Honestly the smallest quality unit you can find will be fine. Since you already have an Antec Basiq 550, I would just stick with that.

Yes guys, took care of this a month ago :) The new rig is humming along nicely. Win 10 is so close to Windows 7 the only big difference to me is the clock on the sign in screen.

Not sure if its been asked, but why bother buying a K series CPU and an aftermarket HSF if youre not going to OC it?

To answer your question, basically anything of decent quality can run your rig, a good 450 - 550 is plenty.

the EVGA 750 is a great PSU, but the draw from your pc is just too small - you would be running at a lower efficiency. i second the EVGA 550.

I'd third it, I used to talk to Okie over at Johnny Guru now and then.

I'm still using an old Antec Delta 850 from long ago on the main with a lot of things on board in a modified 1200 case.

But I used to run a couple GPU's in SLI I do not anymore also.
