How much do grocery store workers make?

Nitemare

Lifer
Applied for a part-time job and it asked what they expected salary was.

I put negotiable, but how much do they really make?

It would be stocking shelves and the like

minimum wage to $7~ an hour?

why don't u work at staples or circuit city? much better personal benefits and they're about $9-10 an hour.

Circuit City and Best Buy both have employees that stand around, or accost customers every 30 seconds. The nearest Staples requires that you fill out a resume in stoor during working hours M-F and is a 20 minute drive without traffic

$6.75 an hour in MA

ummm...what store is this? I have worked in two grocery stores and wa soffered a job at one and none of them started at minimum wage.

edit: I made 7.25 when i started. and that was 4 years ago.

around here people who work in grocery stores make really good money.. like enough money id consider doing that instead, if i was sure i could do the labour easily..... but i don't think that's just a cashier job, its like stocking and doing all those things.. apparently they pay quite well (considering the job...) ... like $16/hour Canadian IIRC.

Depends. Is it day stocking or night stocking?

Typically the bare minimum for night stocking is $6.75, day stocking is typically $6.25. Up to $12.50 for Crew Chief. If you have previous exepriance you could probably tack on $.25-.75 on the minimum pay.

I think baggers may earn minimum wage, but checkers earn a bit more. My gf's mom is a checker for safeway and earns about 14 dollars an hour, double on some holidays, triple on Christmas or Thanksgiving.

around here its usually 6 or 7 bucks per hour. A bit more in the butcher area. If the grocery store has a pharmacy, the pharmacy techs probably make $1 to $2 an hour more than the rest of the grocery store workers.

It depends whats your job. Checkers can make even over 20 dollars an hour in a unionized store if they work there long enough.

I make $9.75 stocking shelves, but I've been with the company a few years... I (part-time) will max out at $10/hour.

My coworkers that came from the stores said that they averaged about $13-$14 an hour in the Phoenix area (after several years). If you work at a unionized store, you might be able to get doubletime on Sundays.
