how much do failed CV joints cost to replace?

The CV joint in the left front of our VW Beetle has failed. We had to get it towed to the shop. How much to replace?
 
Well, figure that since it's an economy car, it should be pretty cheap, right? ...bwahahahahah 😀 (probably near $200.00)
 
My old sentra was 160 per side, if i remember correctly. But this is something you want to shop around on, and don't take it to a run down place.
 
i paid $60 for a new axle shaft and replaced it in about an hour. The hub was rusted solidly to the knuckle, though.
