How much difference would 1 capacitor make on an XFX 6600 GT?

So I purchased a new XFX 6600GT AGP card from newegg and I just got it today.

As I took it out of the packaging, I heard a little rattle in the plastic container that holds the vid card. Lo and behold, one of the small surface mount capcitors broke off from the board. I think the solder joins were shoddy and it broke off.

Would this card still function normally? I'm going to solder it back on tomorrow, but I was just curious how much does 1 small cap affect the board?

Edit: RMAed back to newegg. Staying away from XFX.

Why chance it? Return/exchange it for one with all its parts intact.

There is no way to know! Capacitors are used for many different functions.

haha good luck with XFX RMA, heres another reason not to buy XFX, they dont make cards properly, a big cap to come off is fair, but a little suface mount one is bad

Ok, so not only does their rma process suck, but now they also have crappy manufacturing quality? I've heard nothing but bad stuff about xfx, enough to avoid them like the plague.

Since the RMA is back to Newegg I bet there aren't any problems. They have great customer service.
Of course I'm assuming the RMA is back to Newegg.

Ahh just keep it. I bet they just mount a few spares on there for the hell of it.

Dude, RMA it, there is no sense in voiding your warrenty for something as stupid as trying to fix your own $200 peice of hardware. Don't even try to run the card, there is no real way to know how much of an effect that missing peice of hardware will make.

Possibly none, possibly the world. It depends on the cap. RMA to be safe, and if possible get a refund and get the hell away from XFX.

I know of someone who ran a 6800GT for a while without a cap that broke off right by the molex connector. It worked fine for him, but he ended up eBaying it I think.

I have seen some of the newer video cards with the large surface mounted caps that have been knocked loose.

I am not saying this is the case here, but my concern is that they are generally near a corner of the card, where a person would be likely to place their fingers during install or removal.

I wonder how many of these "defective" cards are in reality the fault of the user that had a boo-boo when installing his video card.

I have called Newegg and got an RMA# with them.

I think I will buy another brand video card. XFX just doens't seem like the way to go.

I did have to get newegg to wave the 15% restocking fee...i mean why should I pay restocking fee for something that's broken right?

Good choice. And why should you have to try and fix something you didn't break? Let xfx worry about it.
