How much diff in quality is DVI compared to Component cables with HDTV?

Depends on the make/model, as well as the technology.

Digital displays tend to see the biggest improvement. Analog based (CRT) tend to have little to no visible improvement.

Depends on the D/A and A/D's then now does it😉

McIntosh probably has a vacum-tube-based display out ther 😉

Where applicable (DLP is true digital technology).

Just saved me $70 -- was gonna get the $100 monster cables from Radio Shack.

Those Monster Cable DVI cables will work as well for short distances, though they're not built as well as the Digital 800 cables from pccables. I have some long ones of those Digital 800 and the signal integrity is great. The connectors are solid, the pins are nice and long (better contact), they have molded in ferrite cores (to help combat interference), and the cables are thick and well shielded.

If you're going extra long (20+ feet), I'd suggest cobaltcables (22 AWG), or BetterCables (24 AWG).

Monster cable and Radio Shack. Double ripoff there.

My tv has no dvi input, but... component looks damn nice (to me).

Yeah, i have component right now but just got the new HD reciever from dish network, that's why I was wondering what the quality diff is.

Just orderd the PCcables DVI 800 10' cable.

Cool, let us know how it goes.

BTW, the calibration is probably different, so you're going to want to calibrate your display's DVI settings.
