My contacts were like $105 Cdn. (good for one year)

Don't remember how much my glasses lenses were. About $200ish i think.

$0.

I got low-end, but price wasn't really a factor. it just so happened that the pair of classes I liked the best were fairly inexpensive.

My glasses cost around $350 altogether. My vision is so bad that the lenses would have been about a half inch thick, so I went with the really high end ones that are supposed to be about half the thickness of normal lenses.

oh, hm... well, my lenses were mid-range then. they were thinner than the usual one for my prescription, but they didn't have that anti-glare that would have jacked up the price. i'd say that the lenses themselves cost less than $100 because the optometrist that we deal with is a really nice guy. the total, including frames, was probably $200+.

high index all the way..but I had lasik done, no more expensive lenses for me. :) if you live near chinatown, check out any eyeglasses store there, they usually have better and more selection than the store in the mall, especially in the high end lenses area. Cheaper too.

around $200, but the insurance paid the other $200. It's the best glasses I've ever had. it is so light and the lenses change color under sunlight.

heres the deal..

i got some $30 ones with titanium frame/frameless, superthin, nonglare from asia.

then,

i got some $300 with the same features as above in the US.

Verdict: get the asian ones, no noticeable quality difference but mucho more $$ left over. In this case, US=ripoff.

Mine were $42 for the lenses, $79 for the frames.

I have no idea about the quality of the lenses.

I wear contact most of the time anyway.

$165 after my insurances... Naturally they wait until your eyes are dialated and messed up to pick out the frames. I couldn't even read the tag. And ignore them when they tell you to not worry about the price, because that's the regular price not with your insurance.

Except for when I play sports when I wear contacts, I wear glasses 100% of my waking day. To me it was worth getting Titanium frames, high index lenses w/ glare reduction. Since my presciption has stabilized, I'll wear the same pair 3+years so quality is very important to me.

Nike Flexon frames + lenses = $271 (after ins.)

If only I was a candidate for LASIK ... :(

I got the pinnacle lenses, lightweight, naturally scratch resistan, uv, and anti reflective. Even with nice frames it was under $300 before the insurance. You go to places like lenscrafters and the same thing costs easily $600. Talk about highway robbery!

Ah, the scam of the century! Paying big bucks for frames. Lenses aren't far behind. Used to be, glass lenses were the cheapest way to go, but now you have to pay a premium, because they're not as common. I guess people don't mind paying to have their scratched plastic lenses replaced over and over again.

And then there's the damn frames! I'm really sure they're worth triple digits for the intricate workmanship, and high quality materials that go into them. Oh, and it's such a pleasure to try and get a replacement arm after a couple years, only to find that 1337 design is no longer manufactured, and no parts are available! :|

You may be right about the lenses, but these frames have survived 2 years of pick-up soccer and basketball games (being knocked off my head about once every other game) and are still as straight, snug, and comfortable as the day I got them. Regular frames wouldn't last a week with that abuse (I know from experience). To me spending the extra cash on a quality frame is well justified, especially since I see myself with them for another year or two.

$300 for my lense.
$200 for my VERSACE frame.

$500 total - $200 insurance.

Well worth it. I feel like a champion.
