I am in the process of getting a 3 series, the salesman told me he would take $2,000 off. Wondering if I can negotiate to get more. Especially with the 05's around the corner. How much have you guys been able to get them to take off?

325i, the MSRP on the one I want is 33,000, so he offered me 31,000. Tips on getting a good deal may help me too, thanks.

you can't really haggle with BMW dealerships, some might give better deals and options for free but that is about it.

I got my 2002 530i for 42k before taxes. Came with cold weather package, split folding rear seat with ski bag, and xenon headlights. Much to my surprise when I came to pick the car up they said they could only find one with the options I wanted and that also came with a heated steering wheel, which was basically $400 for free :D

cantact another dealer. see if they can beat this one's price. haggle dude. then come back to this dealer and show him the new lower price the other dealer gave...see if he will beat the new lower price.

keep on going until they stop going lower

Of course you can.

I bought a 3 series back in about '00 I think, and I employed what's known to many as the Rizzo method:

- Write up a buyer's order with your preferred price, the invoice price, and the dealer's profit over the invoice price.
- Fax this buyer's order to every dealership within your desired radius.

I was able to get a deal for a $1000 over invoice, and I used the same method when I bought my 350Z. I got $1000 off when people were still paying $3000 over MSRP.

You can use the same method when buying a used car; of course, that's assuming that the car isn't in such high demand that dealerships rarely have any on the lot.

Dont listen to people who say you can't haggle. Unless the vehicle you want is limited production, or they cant keep the car on the lot because it is such a hot seller, you can haggle.

Find prices from multiple dealerships. Let them know that you don't care who you get it from, you are just trying to get the best price. If they act like jerks about it, tell them cya. They need commission as much as the next guy. They get paid to sell these, not to turn someone away because they try to get a better deal.

If they go to a certain price right away, you know that is hardly their best offer. You may think that since this is BMW, that they won't haggle and will tell you take it or leave it. If they do, say leave it and see how far you get towards the door.

Do your research. Know what invoice is, and if there are any incentives. Financing might be important on a 30k ride.

Edit: I used this method with Mazda, and got my 3 for over 1000 below invoice.

When I was buying my car I went to the BMW dealer but the people there treated me like a child,
so I went and bought a Lexus instead.

Here is a good (although long) article on what exactly goes on at the dealership and how to use that knowledge to get a better price on your new car.

Don't let one experience with a dealer besmirch your perceptions of BMW. There are asshats in any business.

This is precisely why I like to simply avoid negotiation and tell them what I'm willing to pay, and I do this by fax/phone only. If they're interested in my business, they'll let me know. I don't waste their time, and they don't mine. The idea is simply to circumvent their influential nonsense, and cut through the work of their trying to tell me what I want.

I didn't even get to the negotiation phase. I was walking around the lot looking at the cars and
the salesman says to me in a very arrogant tone "You waiting for someone, son?"
Then I went inside, and they wouldn't even give me a brochure.

Trust me....you can get more off. More so with the 3.0 engine compared to the 2.5 though. What is the MSRP of the one that you want?

You can get a 330 that lists for 42,000 for 37,800
My dealership in Chattanooga, TN even sent out emails about it.

I wanted a 325i, 330 is over my budget. Like I said MSRP was 33,000. I was reading the Rizzo method and it says you should pay 3-5% over invoice generally. So I should get this car for around 29,000 I'm thinking.

Your thoughts?

shop around. don't let them bully you into thinking you're a cheapo, or that the bmw's are in too high of a demand for them to take anything off. shop around.

Don't waste your time on the 325i. Either get the 330, or hop to the Infiniti G35/Acura TL.

You won't be able to tell the difference between the 325 and 330 unless you tac it over 4000 RPM's....
