$45k computer field - Was in California though so I wouldn't expect that much right out of the gate in the midwest or the south.

$50k as a software engineer after graduating in 2002. That was upstate NY.

I'm on my 2nd job now making $59k doing IT work.

I'm about to change career fields completely and I expect my salary to go up significantly in the next few years.

LOL, gotta love some of the responses you'll get here in ATOT.... everyone makes bank supposedly.

QFT, like I said in another thread, I call shens at some of the posts. Prove me wrong by post your last year W-2 form. Or if you are shy, PM me.

At least this thread is not so full of BS like the one about "how old you were when you make 100K or more". IIRC, over 30 posters said they made over 100K when they were in their early to mid 20s :disgust:

Your jealousy blinds your objectivity. There are many fields/professions out there that allow someone to earn that kind of money quite easily in their mid/late 20's. That's when many MD's/Pharmacists get out of school and start earning money. Real estate professionals can easily be established by that point, as can many other sales oriented professions. Independent contractors/consultants can easily bill out that much in a years time.

It's not some mythical figure that is only obtainable by 50 year old people in management positions. There are a lot of high demand positions that pay that kind of money.

It's not unreasonable at all to think that in a forum of 100,000+ registered members that 30 of them are in those fields/professions.

Jealousy? Nope. Tired of all the BS, absolutely. Let take a closer look shall we?

As you can see my post from the other thread <first sentence of the second paragraph>, I said no doubt that "some" of ATOTers are doing very well. But EARLY to MID 20s (Not mid to late 20s) and make 100K or more (NOT including benefits) with 40 hrs work week? Yeah right. Funny that NOT A SINGLE of those posters took my challenge.

I agree with you about medical fields. Pharmacy is just hot in the last few years because when I was in school (a little over ten years ago), it wasn't paid that well.

Last time I check, MDs will have to do residency for a few years before they can go out and make the big bucks. I never met any real MDs in their early and mid 20s with their own practice. Oh, and don't forget about the big bucks those MDs will have to pay out for their malpractice insurance.

Indepedent contractors/consultants are working for yourself plus you have zero benefits and have to pay your own taxes and fees. So the bick bucks you make is not that big after all.

Sales can be up and down. You can't say for sure that a sale person such as one in RE will make 100K or more every year, especially depressing market such as MI, OH, CA, FL, etc. right now.

I worked with Fortune 100 companies before and I know for a FACT that all of them never ever pay 100K+ salary for 40 hrs work week for someone with a bachelor degree and less than 5 years of experience . If anyone knows a company that pay that well, please feel free to PM me. I would LOVE to be own in this situation because I would sure like to work in a place that pay 100K or more with a Bachelor degree or less and 40 hrs work week plus benefits.

Edit: I just checked the old thread and it showed 37 posters make 100K BEFORE they are 20. Now don't you tell me that you believe ALL of them are telling the truth (I am sure a FEW of them do). If you do, then I have some prime real estate swamp land down here in Cajuns land...lol.

I can't see why someone wouldn't want to send over a copy of their financial documents for your verification. This coming from someone who doesn't have a name, city, or state listed in their profile.

While it's possible that people exaggerated how much they make, I wouldn't be so quick to think that folks that age haven't made six figures shortly after graduation.

It's true though, you might be hard pressed to find someone who makes six figures working 40 hours a week, at any age.

At any rate, a better estimate might be what people take home net, not gross.

Don't get me wrong, I never say ALL of the posters are bs. I am just saying I find it very hard to believe some of the numbers, not particular in this thread but the other one. See my edit post above.

AAS in Network Administration. Did a year of consulting for a small business doing all their IT work (PC and Linux server admin) before I graduated.

First job (and current job) out as a Systems Admin making $41,500 plus the $5,000 per year doing PT consulting. Now, almost a year later, I'm making $53,500 plus the $5,000 consulting.

This is in South Dakota.

I'm just lucky I got the consulting job and learned Linux while going to school or I'd be in a lot worse shape.

A BS in ChemE is worth 40K to 60K in general. If you go to petroleum you can get up to 80K if you're willing to go on site.

39K with an MIS degree 10 years ago...so that's low-50s today inflation-adjusted. Fortunately I saw a lot of salary growth during the dotcom heydays and haven't taken any cuts.

I haven't graduated yet. I make 11.50/hr. doing Tech Support/Road Technician/Billing... Yeah, I do everything there. Well, I'm done with the resume building, it's time to make some bank. I'm sick of this not having money crap.
