I received my offer letter from the company I intern with over the summer and was shocked to see they gave a 40 percent raise over what I made last year. I'm curious, how much do college grads typically make coming out the gate. I'm trying gauge whether this company is nuts or if they really want me to join their team when I graduate in 2006.

To make it easy for you guys here's a brief recap:
Major:
School:
Occupation:
Annualized Salary:

Thanks a million

I never had a chance to go to college, my first job (as a mechanic) was $6.00 an hour (this was when minimum wage was $1.25)

I graduated in '99 with a BA in Economics.
First "real" job I had, I started at $11.50/hr as an Accounting Assistant. Worked a fair amount of OT and got a raise to $13.50 at 6 months so I probably grossed around $30K the first year.

Right out of college? Annualized salary would depend on how many tips I brought home each night, and how many hours I worked during the week (pizza delivery). I didn't get my first REAL job (benefits, salary, etc.) for a year. Coincidentally, it was with the company I co-opped with. I'm making 60% more than I was as a co-op, plus benefits.

Major: Business IT
School: See sig ;)
Occupation: Helpdesk
Annualized salary: 60% more than co-op, now with benefits!

build very "specialized" types of websites. Nothing to do with porn or anything like that, though.

Notice the discrepency in the degree and occupation. It's quite common to switch over into something completely different.

First year out of college I made about 65k... second year was 90k. third put me into the 6 digits.
of course, living in NYC, my rent is about $2k a month, so cost of living is a huge factor.

edit: sorry, I forgot:

occupation: work on wall st.
degree: bs in engineering from cal.
