How much damage can a PSU actually do?

Ok, here's the thing, here's my setup:

Athlon 750 Retail
MSI K7T Turbo2
2x256mb SDRAM
6gb WD
80gb Maxtor
DVD Drive
CDRW Drive
ATI AIW 7500
Zoltrix Nightingale Pro6
2 Network Cards
BGMicro VFD

and powering all of this......a generic, 250W Power Supply. Now, first thing that died was the Motherboard, but that was a sh*tty board. Got it replaced with the Turbo, and then soonafter, my recently RMA'd Athlon 750 Died!!

I'm very familiar with computers, but i guess my question is, IS IT Dangerous to have this Power Supply power this system? COULD (i stress COULD) that be the reason for my recent failures? It's just odd because i had the system up & running fine, and then kaput, no more. I took the Athlon 750 out & popped in an XP 1800 & voila, it worked fine.

SO, should i get a new PSU? Could my 250 be giving me probs?

COULD (i stress COULD)
It is POSSIBLE, (I stress POSSIBLE) for that to happen. Not just because it is a 250 watt (too low), but there could be a problem with the power regulation. Of course, the MB should overcome that in most cases, but not always.
It also COULD, (I stress COULD) be simply a stretch of bad luck. Maybe a bit of static when changing out your MB was the culprit, or any other in the myriad of trials and tribulations we have when opening up our boxes.

OK, I had my fun but I just COULDN'T, ( I stress COULDN'T) contain myself. Geez, this is getting bad.;)

Yes I think it could damage all that. I would explain why I think so but it is just based on what I read in another forum which means it may or may not be accurate. So I'll just leave it at that.

Off a 145W Emachines PSU (the worst known to man) I have a MSI KT133 board, 1000 Tbird, GF2 MX, WD 7200RPM 20GB, CD-ROM, Volcano 7, 92mm fans, etc. No problems for 1 year.

BuddyAtBzboyz:
Are you Crazy?!?! Everyone knows that the only way to rid yourself of the Evil Emachine is to pour garlic butter on the Power Supply. Anything less and someone could get hurt. ;)

Well that would explain why I haven't heard from Fred (who owns an emachine) for a while. Maybe I better get an exorsist. Buz2b are you free this Friday?
