Not a hell of a lot. You would probably be lucky with a 100MHz OC. If you're even thinking about overclocking either get a 1600+ (which could OC to 2200+ levels) or a 1.6A.

we meet again.

now, would you mind explaining why i could overclock a 1600+ (1.4Ghz) to the speed of a 2200+(1.8Ghz) and the 1900+ (1.6Ghz) only to the speed of a "2050+"(1.7Ghz). it doesn't make any sense at all.

by 1.6A u mean a P4 1.6 Ghz right? and i assume it is not the sock 478 kind. it is slightly more expensive than the 1900+ . is it faster without o/cing? it seems totally worth it with o/cing. i see some guy actually has it running at like 2.5 Ghz or so.

shi*, after all the careful planning of my system, now i have to pick the CPU once again...

well...suppose i decide to go with a 1.6A. could you please go back to my "i want YOU to help me build a new system" post in the general section and tell me what modifications i need to make to my list?

thank you again for the input.

At stock speeds, an XP 1900+ will beat a P4 1.6A pretty easily, but OC'd the 1.6A will whoop the 1900+ 🙂 Btw, I updated my reply in your thread in the GH forum with 1.6A specs.

I wouldn't rely too much on overclocking. Every cpu is different. I just got my first 1.8a "duds" that overclock only 10% or less. I wouldn't pay a premium price for watercooling or heatsinks. Just run your p4 or xp at 1.75 volts or less, and you'll be fine for temps.

Just one minor point, while I agree with your post that you definitely shouldn't go over 1.75v on a P4 (or maybe even 1.7), XPs can go much higher, and in fact default at 1.75.
