I want to upgrade to a 20d or a 30d so I was wondering how should I sell my XTI for max value? How much should I expect?

Thanks!

New ones are selling for $600 on ebay. Sell yours on ebay then head over to fredmiranda.com. Lots of people have been selling 20D's and 30D's upgrading to the 40D.

You may also try your local craigslist. I found that when I put stuff on there I typically get more than Ebay. Not too mention no fees or shipping.

Picture qualitywise not really. I prefer the 30D because of the feel of the camera and the controls. I can switch ISO/shutterspeed with my fingers very easily for instance. No need to press buttons. There is the higher FPS which has come in handy... but not really necessary unless you dont want to miss the uber cool sports shot. The sensor is easy to get dust off so the anti-dust features of the XTi don't really mean much.

I would say just go to a camera store and play around with one and see if it is worth a $150-200 upgrade.

So it not a step backwards if i go from a XTI to a 30d ? I find both camera's equally comfortable but i do like the weight of the 30d it makes things feel a bit balanced

I agree with Rudder, there's no real picture quality difference, but the difference in things like focus speed, metering, etc and feel. The 30D will not be a step backwards in image quality, and it is likely to be a step forward in terms of metering, focusing, etc.

the "anti-dust sensor" isn't for dust on the sensor... misconception...
the "cleaning device" for the sensor is just layman terms for removing any excess charge that is still trapped in the cmos censor... these charges are the information for the pixels... by removing the charge, this prevents charge buildup on the fets... so when you turn on your camera, the cmos sensor is in a neutral state...
the cleaner removes excess charge... in a sense you can call it a dust cleaner, because if there's no charge on the sensor, then the dust won't adhere to that sensor... but its not really a dust cleaner... and now i find myself talking around in an endless cycle that never ends.... engineers shouldn't be allowed to explain things

the anti-dust thing doesn't work all that great on the canons. it's better than nothing, but not as effective as the olympus or a proper cleaning.

just figured out that with the 10% additional off coupon i got from dell for ordering a system i can get a 40D for $1,013.21 after tax. if i can sell my XTi for $500 then that isn't much at all. also, i could get the 28-135 lens for an additional ~$150 and sell it for a further cost reduction. say another $150 off conservatively... xti kit lens another $50... this is very tempting.

i wonder if any of the printer rebates can help with the cost reduction? $75 off an epson something or other. that'd make an R620 free, ebay for $60...

this is getting more tempting by the minute.

$1247.02 for 40D kit and epson R260 printer
-$985.00 in stuff i could sell and rebates (and maybe sell for even more)
= 40D for me for well under $300

Try buying coupons off of ebay those help a ton.

last December when i bought my XTI i spent about $550 on the body from dell because of all of the coupons
