compared to using an Alpha PAL6035? i am going to be overclocking a duron 700, so heat dissipation is very important. would a FOP38 be a better choise than the 32-1?

Actually, I thin kthe fop32-1 is better than the pal6035 (same fan)
IF you can stand the fop38's noise, get it instead.

i can stand the noise :) i just counldn't find any place in ottawa which carried or even had access to Alpha's, and it would kill me on shipping and exchange rate if i bought it from the states, but i found a place carrying the FOP38 for $42, so i figure it should do well :)

Not bad...
Sure you don't want in on my group buy of 64mb Radeon ES's? :D

Nice system otherwise.
Make sure the Duron is a late week (35+) and you should come close to a gig :)

Umm, are you buying all of the parts locally? That's a nice system, but the price seems a bit steep.

I'm working on a similar system that will end up costing a little more then half of what you're paying! Some of the parts are used, but work fine... If you haven't bought those parts yet, LMK via PM and I'll see if I can help you save several hundred bucks. :)

HappyFace,

I think those are canadian prices

Toph99, Either the fOP32-1 or FOP38 will handle the heat off a duron(up to insane overclocks, as well). The only thing I would consider instead of the MX is the Radeon 32MB Ddr(if its the same price range) and if it works with your mb. But then again, you can't go wrong with either card.

yes, they are canadian prices :)
i now just need to make sure that the FOP38 does indeed fit on the Pro2A, and then i'm all set :)
as for the MX vs. Radeon, i went for the MX because i found it cheaper than the Radeon. i have heard that 3dfx is continuing driver support, and if i can find a voodoo5 for cheap i'll take it over all, because 2d quality and Glide game performance is what i'm looking for :)
