So looking into interning some kid from the u of a....thing is he is taking java/c based programming classes and most of what we do around here is flash based programming (not the typical kind however, 90% straight actionscript, all tweening done in AS, etc). On top of that never accessed a db other than select statements and only simple ones at that.
So I've made the trasition fairly easily, came from the same background, flash seemed like a no brainer (especially MX 2004), so it seems like this guy should have no problem as well right? I mean Flash is just a dumbed down version of java with a fancy IDE at this point i think. As for the DB side most of that is fairly simplisitic since he's not going to be dealing with the backend, but might require some php dev which not sure how far i can push that since no signs of any experience there but once again seems like a C/Java type language so translates fairly simply.
Realistic to expect an intern to be able to pick up and within a week or 2 be rolling with something? Or how much should you expect out of an intern (one that is being compensated)?
