My roommate claims he can bench 300+lbs. Seems a little far fetched to me...

Let me add another question to the list:

Who can driver farther: Arnold Palmer or Anika Sorenstam?

Yes, I have heard the number 330. It seems like a lot, but he has been working out for years.

Annika Sorenstam can hit the ball farther... now. When Arnold was younger, it would have been better comparison. But technology has changed so much these days...

I'm guessing Annika. Arnie is my grandfather's age after all and Annika hits the ball futher than most amateur golfers I know.

1. How much do you think Elin Nordegren weighs?

2. Who cares, neither one will win another tournament on the pga tour

300+ pounds! I seriously doubt it. I know he's fit but look at the guy, he's not very big and to bench 300+ pounds you would have to be either big or ripped which Tiger is neither. Driving the ball far is more than just pure strength, a lot of it is technique. Michael Vick can bench around 300 and he is a lot bigger than Tiger.

you don't have to be big or ripped to do over 300 lbs. i saw a guy weighing about 150 lbs do way over 400 at a powerlifting competition.

look here.

A guy in my HS many years ago was smaller than that and could bench 300+, so I believe it is possible.

It might be far-fetched, but I don't think it's out of the question. He's a lot more muscular now than when he first got to the PGA Tour.

Original question - yes I have heard 300+, I'd imagine he has to so that he can impress that swedish nanny girlfriend of his :p Annika can drive the ball farther than arni, she can hit it farther than I can on average (I average about 265ish I think she hits it about 275 on average)

I believe it. I'm 6'2" and weigh 190lbs and I can bench about 300 or a little less. I haven't maxed out in years. I see guys in the gym much smaller than me that workout with MUCH more than I do.

For those of you who doubt it based on the fact that it doesn't look like he is that big don't know jack about muscle. Size does NOT matter. A truly fit person will not look all that huge because they focus on quality rather than quantity. While I doubt myself that he can bench 300, I don't say that based on the fact that he looks small. I just think that golfers are wusses and should be thankful they are strong enough to lift a club w/o grunting.

It is very possible. Anyone saying he is not big enough or doesn't look strong enough doesn't know anything about lifting.

In golf you want to be able to flick your upper body around as fast as possible, when you hit you're using your arms, shoulders and some thigh muscles. He's probably been working on all these muscles for close to 10 years, I don't doubt he can lift at least 300 lbs.
Oh yeah, the driver he hit's is actually 43.5" long as opposed to the 45" driver others use, and he's second in driving distance only to Davis Love, I'm certain that takes some considerable strength.

I honestly doubt 300... I'm 6'4" and max around 275-ish and my chest/tri's are a lot bulgier than his are... I don't doubt he's fit and stuff, but I honestly don't think he has that much chest/tri strength... He probably has crazy endurance/tone but like strength-wise I honestly doubt he could put up that much...

I go to the gym about twice a week. Sure, there are some big guys who can't lift a whole lot, and some skinny guys who are stronger than they look. But the fact is, to bench press 300 pounds you need quite a bit of muscle mass. A friend of mine whose 6'2", 250 pounds who works out like crazy usually benches around 260. Another friend of mine whose 5'8", 200 pounds does about the same. Both of these guys are huge. They have enormous arms, chest, and shoulders.

This is Tiger Woods. With twig-like arms, and almost non-existent pecs like that, you can't bench press 300 pounds. His skinny little wrists would snap in two under that kind of weight.

Furthermore, if Tiger Woods did put on a lot of muscle mass (enough to bench 300), he would become a crappy golfer. He needs to maintain flexibility, which is dimished by large and/or tight muscles.
