How much can they find out?

Hey all,

At work, I have a computer that ONLY I have ever touched. I own it, I built it, and I am the only person who has ever used it for anything. I just have it here for my own purposes. But I was wondering... ow much can they know about what I do on the network here? I was not given any IP address or anything.... I just installed Windows, plugged the CAT5 in, and I was on the internet. Everything is automatic. Didn't configure anything. So, if someone was wanting to know what sites I was visiting and such, how much could they find out? Also, if I were to visit something that they didn't want me visiting, could they trace those sites back to my computer specifically? --Or can they only do that whem there is a tracking program installed?

They can easily find out what sites you visited, and know it's from your computer...

Even though they did not assign you any IP, you still have one to get onto the network... Probably you are using DHCP and they automatically assign you a IP when you boot on... Nevertheless, you still got a IP...

Since you are access the internet through a network, they must have some kind of NAT for all the PCs to share the connection... Even home NAT programs like Sygate keep a detailed log of what sites/IP each client computer visits, at what time, etc... So I am pretty sure they also have this kind of log in an office application too...

So all they need to do is look at that log and they will know EXACTLY what sites you have been visiting, at what time, etc... And you said u are the only one using that PC, so they can be sure it was YOU who was going to those sites!

In other words, dont visit the sites u know they dont like u going to... they can easily find that out... leave them at home...

I really hate that. I don't want anyone knowing ANY sites I go to. Not because they're bad, but because it's nobody's damn business. I don't want people listening to my phone conversations, so why would I want them to know what web sites I visit? Sucks, but oh well.

I have read that some company can even monitor what u do on your desktop... and some install video cameras to see what you are doing all the time... these things are going too far...
