Very surprised at the idiots (half of whom are joking) claiming he should've gotten a busa.

This happened at 55-60. A busa in 6th and he would've been going at least 65-70.

In all seriousness, from a statistics perspective the 250 is what kept him from killing himself (or worse).

FBB glad you're ok. Make sure you have the correct details in regards to bike buyback and etc. Lots of good advice in this thread.

That's personal injury/property damage to others. Still not sure how/why did doesn't have collision on a bike that's financed.

I've got that coverage too, I'm also required have coverage for myself and passengers in my own vehicle.

Edit: I just checked and it appears that it falls under uninsured/underinsured coverage that is required by my state. Other states may not require uninsured/underinsured coverage.

*tink, tink* yep, what you got right there is a broken sarcasm meter. I can fix 'er, but that aint gonna mean it'll work like it's supposed to.

Guess this is gonna be a typical FBB thread, post some useless gibberish and then walk away.

Kind of strange for someone that likes to spend money, he didn't have proper insurance on his bike nor better medical insurance. Now, he's debating about filing for bankruptcy over $5k. I'm sure his parents would give him the money but he could just sell some of his stuff to pay the medical bill.

This is why I have full coverage on my old Jeep. I can't afford to replace it even though it's worth about $3000.

We're the 99% and we can't afford to live like tough guys on the internet with "financially" superior liability coverage and high deductible health insurance.

Err how much do you think that full coverage costs you? Most collisions run at least $600-800 a mo extra ... couple years you've paid more for insurance than the car's worth.

$53/month

1999 Jeep Cherokee with the I6 and 4WD, I'm 27, haven't had an accident or ticket for 6 years.

So it takes about 4 years to pay what the car is worth. My deductible is $1000 so I'd get about $2000 which is enough to buy a beater. Better than the $0 I have to spend on a car without full coverage.

Oh pff, it would make no sense not to at that rate, regardless of your income.

And save the 99% bullshit, I have the tiniest violin for you for being born in one of the richest first world countries out there.

I pay less than that for full coverage on my Ducati. :awe:

Glad you're okay FBB! Heal up quick man, focus on yourself and your family. All the rest of that horseshit is meaningless.

This kind of thing is precisely why I do not want to own a motorcycle for serious travel. There are simply way too many shitty drivers out there. Had you been in a car, it would've been a fender bender and no big deal most likely.

Thanks for the support guys.

FWIW, I'm not too concerned about the bike's cost. It was paid off a year ago, sucks that I only had liability, but oh well. I remember making calculations and the full coverage payments would have equaled the cost of a new bike in a year and a half. No thanks. The bike was *advertised* for $3K, but after taxes, transportation, other dealer bullshit, it came to ~$5K I think. My original $6K figure was high -concussion.

What I *am* worried about are the medical costs. I just entered into a system that has no problem billing like $1K/hr for shit. Yeah, I'm worried. I'll negotiate all I can and hope that it works out.

I'm really bummed about the bike. Even if I upgraded to another bike, I woulda kept it for its ~59mpg mileage. Great runabout. Great camping bike.

Negotiate with the hospital and pay what you can. Yeah it's crazy that one trip to the hospital can bankrupt someone.

I gave up riding about 6 months ago. It wasnt long after a wreck I had. I enjoy motorcycling but at the time it just didn't make sense to keep riding. Im not saying you should stop riding it just seemed like the right choice for me.

Wait aren't you one of the "non sarcastic" busa / zx14 promoters? Is there a thread on your accident?

I wasn't born here, I'm from Trinidad & Tobago and I was born in Oman.

If you lived paycheck to paycheck, or worse, how would you buy a replacement vehicle after an accident?

Once when I wanted to get a bike, my dad told me something like... Eventually you either kill the bike or it kills you.
He had a Triumph back in the 50s.

Yeah I love the big bikes. I do realize those bikes aren't for a beginner. I have recommended an older 600cc for a beginner bike if that's what you're thinking of.

I didn't start a thread on my wreck. Not a big deal as I walked away. Bike took about 4k in damage though. I fixed it with eBay and whatever deals I could find online. I rode a few months after the wreck and found my heart just wasn't into riding anymore. I figured then I'd just sell the bike and move on. Might pick up riding again later as its been a lifelong passion of mine.

How can anyone not have full coverage on a bike? I've had the same bike for 10 years, paid $240/yr every year for full coverage. What does having liability only save you? $100/yr?

Full coverage on a super sport for someone < 25 years old and unmarried can easily be 3k+ a year. Even with a 100% clean driving record.

Guessing the health coverage is why it costs so much?

Nope, it's the fact that they are stolen and wrecked more than any other type of motorcycle. Plus the plastics are very expensive so even a minor tip over in a parking lot can do thousands of dollars worth of damage, maybe even total it.

I doubt many riders carry medical on their motorcycle policy quite frankly.

They are exceedingly dangerous even for people who are skilled riders.

That's ridiculous. There is definitely a lot more risk than driving a car but there are plenty of things you can do as a rider to minimize the risk. I rarely ride after dark (except during the winter when it is dark when I leave work) and never ride after consuming alcohol. Always try to be in the right frame of mind, focused.

I know a number of guys who have been riding for decades and have never been in a serious accident. The one who has hit a deer and he has hundreds of thousands of miles riding over the span of 30+ years.
