How much can I overclock my GF 6600 (GV-NX66128D) PC-E?

It's got 128 mb of vram. The default core clock is 300 and the default memory clock is 550. Gigabyte has straightforward v-tuner software that will let me up the clock and memory speeds.

I just added a zalman heatsink / fan (on video card and CPU). The temperature in the room is generally around 70 degress F and I haven't noticed any heat problems.

I'm going to buy a new video card when this one doesn't play relatively new games (I'm not that into FPS games though). I wouldn't be devatated if this video card fails.

The zalman fan has a 12v option and 5v option. How high should I overclock this card under each? I'd like to stay on the 5v option given that it's quieter. Thanks.

Thanks happy medium. I downloaded it. I saw on tomshardware that "Ambitious overclockers are best advised to begin with the Coolbits registry hack to determine the optimal clock speeds." But how do you do that?

My 6600gt with a AC silencer on it does 600mhz core, and 1110mhz memory. Coolbits is great to learn the process but if you really learn your stuff Rivatuner is the best program out their.

what drivers you using?
Do you have a temperature monitor for your card?
It's in the same place as the clock frequency option.

It should look like this
http://3dgpu.com/archives/2004/08/09/geforce-6800-tweak-guide/#clock

Read that article it's preety good

I read up on your card it should easily overclock to 450 core 650 memory.
Start there and play some games if it works raise them both 5 clicks and play some more games ect. ect.

Thanks for the article. I'm using the 91.47 drivers from nvidia's website. It doesn't look like the image you posted. Windows said the registry was updated so I'm not sure why it's not showing up. I'm almost positive the card does not have a temperature monitor. Is that how the software detects the optimal frequency?

I'll try 450 and 650. Thanks!
