I got some license plate rims from Canada and they seem to cover a lot of the plate, but then I saw that pretty well everyone around me has the same sort of covering going on. You can fully make out the license plate number and at the bottom only about 1/4 of the top of the word ALABAMA, and then on the left and right you can make out the top half of the expiry dates on the plates. Now that seems strictly speaking illegal to me, but I'd say at least 10% of cars have license plate rims and they call cover up at least this much!
