I'm a computer science major in college and will be graduating in 4 years with a bachelor's degree from NYU. I'll probably be looking to become a software engineer or programmer. What can i expect my starting salary to be when i graduate taking into account the trends in the industry, all the outsourcing stuff, etc? Where can i expect to be working at and how difficult do you think it will be trying to find a job?

Furthermore, if anyone on this forum graduated from college with a cs degree or works in the industry and doesn't mind sharing your career journey and experiences, please enligten me.

Thanks.
PS: I will be in NYC.

Wayyyy wayyy too many variables to take into account.

Location, previous work experience, resume, etc.

11ty billion.

In all seriousness, probably somewhere in the 40-60k range unless you are at the top of your class or have great internships.

it depends how good you are,
I've got a double degree in Economics and CS from a top school (#10 and #4 in the respective majors) and my total comp this year is ~80-85 depending on the bonus. I've graduated earlier this year.

For the love of god, make certain you get some internships / Co-ops. They will make a world of difference.

Man, you're graduating in 4 years? What do you think we have, a crystal ball? First of all, 2/3 of the freshmen who started in CS at my school changed majors because it was too hard. So don't assume you're going to graduate with a CS degree in 4 years. Secondly, have you heard of this outsourcing stuff that's going on? Nobody knows what's going to happen with that in the next 4 years. Supposedly the trend is that the jobs are coming back to the US, but who knows. You could graduate in 4 years with not a job in sight, or you could land a job before you graduate. How much you'll be making will depend entirely on where you live (or are willing to live).

he doesn't since he's asking how much money he can make from it. I predict you'll switch your major or be miserable.
