how much bleeding is normal after wisdom tooth remove?

I am spitting blood (pretty thick) every few minutes.... trying to clamp down on some gauze

Is it normal to Drool a LOT? Not too much blood in the dool, but LOTS of water.

edit: when i had 4 teeth removed to get ready for braces, i didn't bleed thatmuch, but wisdom teeth are supposed to be worse, right?

if it's really excessive and continues bleeding or re-rupturing over a few days, you might want to get your blood checked, maybe not enough platelets?

i only had 1 and i had it removed, and it was painful. i think mine bled for like 2-3 days. i remember waking up 2 days in a row with some blood spots on my pillow. i also drank alcohol the day after at a birthday party. it helped the pain go down, but i was drunk and took the pain killers before i went to sleep while I was drunk, and needless to say, the next day I had a monster headache all day (from mixing the pain killer with alcohol).

I had all 4 taken out at one time and I actually bled for 2 weeks afterward. Granted, it slowed to a small trickle by the end of the 2 weeks, but it did last that long. Of course, my dumbass reopened it by trying to eat fried chicken about a week and a half afterwards.

Mine didnt really bleed uncontrollably for more than a few hours after the surgery. I was able to eat solid food again less than a week after I had them removed. I think it all depends on how deep they were when removed.

Yea, that is true. My bottom 2 were impacted. That's what caused me to bleed so much.

Removed all four in Dec. Had a decent bit of bleeding, though I wouldn't call it thick, more like bloody saliva/phlegm. Stopped after a couple of hours, though I still saw traces of it over the next day or so when rinsing.

funny you ask. At 9:00 am today i got 4 impacted wisdom teeth removed. By the time i woke up my mouth was hardly bleeding. I took the gauze out as soon as i got home and within half an hour the bleeding had slowed to a small trickle. Now, 8 hours after the operation theres no bleeding at all.

I had my two bottoms out; one side bled more than the other, maybe a couple hours?

Yea, that is true. My bottom 2 were impacted. That's what caused me to bleed so much.

I had my bottom 2 removed and they were really impacted. It bled pretty heavily for the first day, but after that it was just a slow trickle. I wasn't able to eat solid food for about 2 weeks or so. I got really sick of baked potatoes eventually

I had one impacted wisdom tooth removed, and it bled noticeably into the gauze for about four hours. That was supposedly longer than it should have, but from everyone's responses here, it sounds normal. At the end of that time, the gauze was only turning light pink, so I stopped using it.

While I was still attending university, I had two removed and then went immediately to economics class (It was a tough class that I didn't want to miss). I was bleeding very little, but I sure grossed out the girl sitting beside me when I took out the gauze and replaced it with some fresh pads.

It had stopped bleeding entirely by the time I got home in three hours.

In 1983 I had all four removed at once. The Navy "dentist" told me to bring my walkman along, so I did and listened to Rush - Moving Pictures. I actually fell asleep with just a local. Afterwards, he said keep your mouth shut for 24 hours. No smoking, no eating, no straws, just sips of water. By the same time the next day, the swelling was gone and I wasn't bleeding. Just exploring these huge caverns in my mouth.

The rest of the story:

At the same time I was having mine done, a neighbor of mine was having his done. Due to the impacted nature, they put him under with an IV. The IV "nurse" blew it a couple of times and the site became infected. a few weeks later gangrene set in, a week after that, his arm was amputated at the elbow. I haven't been to a dentist since. Irrational but still afraid.

Sure it is. Your mouth is swollen, numb and you look like a freakin' chipmunk. In my case, I have no idea why my throat swelled up as well, made me look like a bullfrog.
