How much better is a 6800gt than a 6800 regular.

The title says it all. I need a new card and am wondering how much better the gt is than the regular 6800. If you have links to reviews/benches that would be great, I really don't know many places to find reviews.

Weeeelll... I'm not sure about the current refresh of 6800nu's but mine unlocked all the extra pipes and vertex shader perfectly. There is STILL a difference though, as the memory archiectures are different. GT uses DDR3 @1000Mhz, I'm lucky to get 900Mhz without burning the living sh## out my card using an nvsilncer. Regardless the difference is drastically cut with the hardware enabled though.

Not quite that simple, but almost anyway.

yeah, core and memory speeds are better on the GT as well. So it should be faster than 16 pipes vs 12 pipes, however with efficiency and what not it might be faster and it might be not that much faster. But for the most part the price/performance is even.

More than 33% faster. The 6800GT almost doubles the performance of the 5950, and the 6800 is only a bit ahead of the 5950. Id say that the 6800GT is closer to about at least 50%-60% faster.

Yeah that's a weee bit off the mark. On average it may be somewhere like 25% better, but that estimate is without the masked hardware enabled

Check that link I put up above. It also has links to other game benchmarks with cards in the same performance range. It's Tom's btw.

The GT is certainly superior to the 6800nu. However, it also depends on what the rest of your system looks like. Putting the GT in an underpowered system won't yield you the results that you desire. Likewise, putitng an nu in an otherwise tiop-of-the-line system would also not produce the results befitting of a top end rig.

Has someone been smoking crack?

hmmm...according to my calculation of the link that you gave to Tom's....he's not far off.
Here's how it breaks down in performance percentage:
The first Farcry Demo with no AA/AF
79.2 (for the GT) - 59.6 (for NU) = 19.6 or a 32.9% gain
with 4x AA/AF
53.4 (for the GT) - 39.8 (for NU) = 13.6 or a 34.2% gain
with 4X AA/AF at 1600X1200
27.0 (for the GT) - 16.7 (for the NU) = 10.3 or a 61.7% gain

...pretty much all the benchmarks seem to be similar with about 15-40% gains across the board at lower resolutions, but a big difference in gains for the 1600X1200 resolutions. So at those higher resolutions with the "goodies" on, you can say that the 6800GT is about "50-60% faster" than the 6800 as he stated! ;)

I was quoting mainly his point that the 5950 is only a bit behind the 6800 which is totally not true. ;)

In this case, the memory bandwidth alone is a pretty good performance indicator if you are interested in higher resolutions.

The 6800 (no letters) is pretty good, though, it will allow you to either run not-to-demanding games at high resolutions with AA/AF or demanding games at medium resolution/AA/AF.

The 6800 GT will allows you to have both. A 6600 GT will do the latter but not the former.

The 6800 GT also has twice the memory (and the muscle to use it) which gives you better quality if the game is equipped to use it.
