How much bandwidth does AT typically use up on a daily basis?

would be less without ads 😛 😉

i don't think the ads are served via AT servers
(i'd double check, but they're not there right now)

check the articles in the IT Computing section.

I'm curious as to what anandtech.com runs on (esp. the forums) so I looked through some articles there - one of them mentions "5 x Dual AMD Athlon MP 1900+ w/ 1GB Memory" - is that just a testbed or what AT runs/ran on?

I remember that question being asked on slashdot and the answer being a laundry list of top-notch gear behind a Cisco switch, etc., and the last sentence was, "In other words, NOT IIS with a cracked copy of MySQL on an AMD Thunderbird!" LOL 😀

the forums would be non existant without ads.

not if they brought back the subscriber service 😀

The subscriber service (which I loved) was taken away because less than 1% of the forum population used it. So it wasn't worth the overhead to keep the billing/server running.
