if your plates stay on the the table and drinks aren't refilled, $0.00
If they do their job, maybe 10%

did you have an actual waiter, or not?
If there is a waiter I always leave a nice tip, if they dont actually bring you drinks or anything then they get a buck

I leave a buck so long as my drink gets refilled and they clear the table with reasonable expedience.

Last time all they did was seat us and get us our initial drinks. Buffet was ~$18 so everyone left a $20.

I could've sworn that you didn't tip at a buffet?

How do you pronounce buffet?

BOO-FAY or BUFF(Bagwell)-Fett (JangoFett)

i personally have never left a tip at a buffet... the people hardly communicate with you. why leave a tip if all they do is come by your table, grunt, grab your plates and take off?

yup thats it. and it always depends on the service/lack thereof that you receive, regardless of whether its a buffet or not :)

Sh!t those are waiters? I always thought they were beggars looking for scraps of food, thats why I leave my plates "half-eaten".

Tipping at a self-serve buffet gets me, but it is expected and is part of the compensation. At lunch I leave a dollar. If the cost is about $7 at night I'll still leave a dollar, but if it is one of those $12.95, or higher, places I'll leave $3 for the two of us.

only if they have personal waiters that do something. unlikely. higher end buffets $30+ a pop are different.
