I'm jealous here. I've got Insight phone, cable (10 meg though they offer up to 50), internet. I pay $215, the cable package is the digital expanded with all the regular channels and hd, and I get showtime as well (only for strikeforce fights). I have two HD DVRs and one regular cable box. I think the price is absolutely crazy. I'm considering dropping it all except internet and then getting dish network or direct tv.

At the location I'm at, my only tv options are dish, directv, or insight cable. Any advice on negotiating a better deal or whether to go dish or directv?

I LOVE threads like this. I get to brag.

Due to my uber fantastic negotiating skills (and, of course, luck), I am currently paying $87.06/mo for my Fios Triple Play with unlimited phone, 25/25 internet, 1 HD DVR, with the "extreme HD" tier and also HBO, Starz, Max, Showtime, IFC and every other premium movie channel.

They've kept trying to fuck my bill and I've kept successfully complaining and my bill has steadily inched down as a result. $87.06 is the new low, and will hold for the last two months.

My year will then be up at the end of Sept. but I now have a personal contact in the "President's Office" who swears he will help me get the best new deal he can.

When I expressed skepticism he told me "you're in good hands with me." He's told me I can call him any time I have any problem at all, and has answered within 1 hour the one time I did.

If he can somehow keep me under $110/mo for all this for the next year I'll be amazed and grateful. We'll see.

Is this your contact?

Man these mother fuckers lol. So I ended up cancelling my tv service entirely, effective after this period. Would not work with me at all. Bill would be going up to $132 next cycle for just tv + internet, fuck that.

Man these MOTHER FUCKERS!

So as I said on the 29th, I canceled my TV service and went internet only.
Called to cancel internet as well today, because I plan to switch to cable internet only for $40/mo no contract for a few months. Then see about signing a good 1-2 year deal with FioS under new customer.

So CR tells me she'll be happy to assist me, but she has to let me know that I am going to be charged a $150 ETF. Ok wtf, told her I am not in a contract. She said when you canceled your tv service you got a 12 month contract for 25/25 @ $69.99/mo, if you did not have a contract you'd be paying $80-85/mo.

Told her no, last year when I started service I had 25/25 internet only, no contract for the same price, and I was not informed I'd be entering a contract this time. She called BS even after I looked over my bills online while talking to her. So then I say ok I looked over the email you guys sent me on July 29, it says I have 30 days to cancel service after installation and not be charged an ETF. She replies your install was last year so it's been over 30 days. So that went no where.

My billing period for TV/Internet ends today, already paid in full prior to July 29, which is why I told them to just wait until Aug 15 to cancel my tv service. So I concluded my internet has also already been paid in full up until today, and my internet only "contract" won't even start until tomorrow.

So I called back and explained all this shit to another rep, and after hassling they ended up saying I'd get a $150 credit on my account to counteract the $150 ETF.

Such bullshit.

And NOW for the thrilling conclusin of Blog.Perknose Productions Presents: Mighty Perk vs. the Evil Hordes of Verizon :p

When last we left our hero, his bill for a full zoot suite of goodies had trickled down to the all time low of $86.53, with the promise of the same level of billing for the next two years!!

Ok, I'll spare you the tedious details, such as the person who was supposed to do this for me "no longer works here" and "Who promised you what when?"D:

You can't beat a man with the facts, and I gave the person asking me that the full names and exact titles of BOTH people who promised me that, exactly what they promised me, and the dates AND TIME of day they promised me, along with their phone numbers and the physical location of the office in which they work, or worked.

Upshot after much equivocation and weasel words like "Which part of your package would you be willing to give up to reach this bill amount":

I now retain everything for the next two years for . . . $83.22 per month including all taxes and fees. That's marginally less than I was paying, and marginally less than I was promised! :D

The one fly in the ointment (there's always at least one):

The HBO/Cinemax discount, the HD DVR discount, and the "move package with Epix" discount could only be inputted for 12 months, so I must call back in 12 months to get these reapplied. "If, at that time, we don't have these exact discounts, we will add others."

"You do realize, Mr. Nose, that you are receiving more discounts than just about any other Verizon customer."

"Why yes, yes . . . yes I do."

The value of being omnipotent!

Once again I have to admit being a bit jealous of your beyond-awesome FIOS deal.

Sorry, but fuck Verizon. They will never get another dime of my money. Outdated and old equipment. Raising my rates every what, 4-6 months? I ended up going to Time Warner (Road Runner) - I know I know, everyone says they are shat, but I pay $30 a month less for an extra (and newer) DVR box, faster internet, larger DVR on the main TV, and HBO/SHO, whereas I previously only had one DVR box and no HBO/SHO.

Their CS was horrible - I don't know how many movies I tried to rent that it wouldn't let me watch (not just porn) and I never got credited back. Took a week to fix anything anytime it was broken, but they literally disconnected my service in 5 minutes when I told them to suck my cock and I was cancelling their service.

Not sure why I didn't switch sooner...only originally had a 2 year contract. (Spent 3.5 years with them) Couldn't be happier with TWC.

All the big service providers suck, as far as I can see. In my personal experience, Comcast sucks the worst.

Through a series of unfortunate events which I diligently managed to turn to my advantage through long, tedious self-advocacy, I was able to hit the jackpot with Verizon, but I am under NO illusions that this is repeatable.

I've heard good things about Dish but never had it.

BUT WAIT, it gets better! Last month's bill was one-time, manually corrected by the CSR with a $50 credit. This month my bill represents what I'll be paying for the next 2 years, grid willing!

$72.29! :awe:

And, again, that's for unlimited phone, 25/25 FIOS internet, the "extreme" HD TV package, with Showtime/Starz/EPIX and HBO/Cinemax packages, and an HD DVR.

The internets. I win! ():)

I am a Perk in training. My girlfriend's dad has been mentoring me for the past 3 years. He is just like you...insanely good at negotiating. He happens to be worth millions because of it...are you in the same boat?

Ok, in the meantime, magically, my monthly bill for the last year went down to to $69.58.

However, the bucks stop here. My contact in the Big Wazoo office has left the employ of Verizon, and the best my negotiating skillz were able to get me was $102.80 through this December, and then $112.80 through September 2014, with all of the bolded listed above from 2011 plus for the last year I've had 50/25 net speed and a multi-room DVR.

It was quite a ride, and as my new Verizon contact assures me, I'm still getting a better deal by a wide margin than anyone else out there.

Yay me?

all I can say reading this is that internet + tv service is frigging expensive in the USA

52 euro/ month in Belgium gets you iptv service, unlimited internet + phone service and that is without any negotiations or deals

In France you get the following for 32 euro / month

1 Gbit fibre internet unlimited
250 GB freebox nas with blu-ray player
phone service with free calling to 108 destinations
600 channel tv service

As a former cable tech subcontractor, I did at least one "Win Back" install for Cablevision, Comcast and FIOS a week. A "Win Back" is where a customer leaves on provider for another and the first provider "wins back" the customer with discounted rates for a year or two. Many people (including myself) set up their email address on places like Yahoo/MSN/Gmail and play the game of switching to the best offer of the day.

Don't reply to web ads or emails. Call Verizon sales directly and tell the salesperson "This is what I'm getting and this is what I'm paying for Comcast. Can you do better?" and you will be surprised at what they can do. Before you sign on the dotted line, tell them you want to think about it and call Comcast (or whoever your provider is) and ask for the Retention" department and tell them FIOS called and made you an offer of whatever it was and your thinking of changing. This will get you a much better deal for a year or two with your current provider. I have even ordered FIOS in the morning, called Cablevision at lunch to cancel stating that I got a better deal, got sent to Retention where they would beat FIOS, accept the deal, then call FIOS and cancel the order.

I'm currently on FIOS after 25 years with Cablevision because of the better internet speeds and the multiroom DVR which cable vision didn't have, but now that Cablevision is getting with the times, I may be going back because they are now calling with new deals and Multiroom DVR's are now available. My house is wired so that the drop from the street for both Cablevision and FIOS hit the house in the same place and swapping is a simple mater of changing the connection to the street and swaping boxes.
