If I go to the bar and ask for a whiskey and coke, or a vodka and 7up, do I get 1oz (30ml) or 1.5oz (45ml) of alcohol?

I know one shot is the full 1.5oz, but I don't know if it's the same with a mixed drink.

you get 1 serving which is 1.5 oz.

I don't know of any establishment that uses the pony shot as the measurement in a standard drink.

it all depends on the place. i know some dives where a crown n coke = and inch from the top with crown, splash of coke.

if youre not getting at least a shot in a drink, talk shit to the bartender and dont buy another or tip him unless he remedies the situation.

depends on the bar, i suppose. i know places that make drinks strong like i prefer, others just use one shot (1.5oz).

Yep. A mixed drink is one "drink" which is 1.5 oz of 80 proof spirit.

Most drinks will give you about .5-.7 ounces ethanol. Exceptions include mixed drinks that have more than 1.5 ounces of liquor.

Everyone seems to get it mixed up. A shot is 1 ounce and a jigger is 1 1/2 ounce as here
As far as drinks go, the amount of booze used is more a matter of bar policy than recipe.

this brings up something else...

I live in the south where Coke brands are mainly the only thing so I will normally get a crown and coke.

Up in other areas where Pepsi is more popular do people get a crown and pepsi? What do the bars carry? Coke or Pepsi?

still coke. pepsi makes shitty drinks for the most part. mountain dew (pepsi product)makes a decent mixed drink with parrot bay, but thats more of a red-cuppin, under 21, kinda thing.

If they do not have coca cola, I do not order a coke based mixed drink. Pepsi just does not taste right with crown. Instead, I'll order crown with ginger ale if I want a mixed drink.

Why the fuck would you mix a perfectly good whiskey like Crown Royal with coke?

If you want to adulterate your booze, just order their house Canadian with coke...

You'll save money, and since the coke fucks up the taste anyway, you probably won't even notice the change.

Wanna drink Crown Royal? Drink it neat...or on the rocks.

nah, I just don't like it enough straight. And cheap brands taste like crap, even with coke.

But a nice crown and coke, mmmmm.

I would drink Special reserve straight, but not regular crown.

I really don't care how other people consume anymore. That being said, I can't stand coke in my whiskey. I can sip on Jack and have a can of coke on the side but not together.

When I mix alcohol with a carbonated soft drink I use bacardi. And I pour em' strong, at least a double.

Maybe because it tastes good to some people? If I want to drink Crown Royal, I drink Crown Royal XR.

You won't find me mixing Crown Royal XR or Cask No. 14, but frankly when I want to spice up a coke, its just easier to ask for a crown and coke. Also, the bars around me do not differentiate the price between crown or any other Canadian whiskey they have.

You are right, if you want to drink whiskey, drink the damn whiskey and don't mix anything into it.

LOL@Crown Royal being "perfectly good"
I'd rather listen to a Bryan Adams and Celine Dion duet than drink any whiskey from their country.

Depends on the bar's room temperature. If it is piss warm, yeah, i'll take a single ice cube. It also depends on the drink itself as certain whiskeys are more enjoyable at different temperatures to me.

Most bars I've been to will have the bartender hold the shotglass over the glass of ice. He'll then pour the liquor into the shotglass, let it overflow for a second, then keep pouring while he dumps the shot in at which point he stops pouring the liquor. I'm sure I usually get 2.0 oz per drink.
