How many "What should I buy" threads do we need?

GH wasn't always this way. Some "build guide" threads would be great!

Many, many, many of the questions can be answered by reading existing threads or reading AT articles. AT does a GREAT job of publishing more info than anyone could want! AT articles are a great resource.

IMHO, until they start stickying build threads to match everyones budgets and their needs whether its gaming programming video editing and conforming to certain budgets, you're gonna see these threads alot. There are enough people that enjoy picking out parts (myself included) and helping others that are just starting into computers or haven been out of the game a while. Hell, i say we get AT to add a Comp building section so all of these threads can be put somewhere else so people stop crying about them.

I think the funny part is the number of threads exactly like this one.

I'm still  at the below ...

Topic Title: How many "What should I buy" threads do we need?
Topic Summary: Really, do a search and read before posting.

This is getting old. Every other thread is "look at this should I buy this?" thread.

Are you an idiot? Of course there will be parts discussion.

the op answered his own query .. 😀

Yeah, the search function isn't the greatest on this site...
Some DO need to know how to type google in the address bar though. Whenever I want to look something up or a review thats the first place i go, instead of posting a thread and waiting sometimes hours for a responce when if I would have just looked it up, I would have found it 100 times over. 🙂

Those threads are one of the main reasons people visit this site and this forum. It's why I first came here and probably most of you too. AT has always been very helpful and it should remain so, to everyone, no questions asked. Unless someone is being abusive or spamming, answer the questions to the best of your ability. Or don't read the thread.

Just stop calling others who disagree with you "idiots". If you have a problem with people's post then I would recommend NOT reading them or posting this in forum issues if you just can't get over it.

I guess you missed the part where he called me an idiot.

Sorry, I guess I didn't take it the same way as you. Now, don't roll your eyes at me mister! :Q

No one would use the search engine anyways.

I would, if it didn't show me a thread about the victoria's secret fashion show in the off topic forum when I wanted to search for how to vmod a 7900gt... 😀

BTW, I read the victoria's secret thread...

How many "How many "What should I buy" threads do we need?" do we need?

😀 Sorry, I couldn't stop myself.

Anyway, GH is sort of the shopping network of high-end consumer PC parts, there's nothing wrong with that. Altho - the inability of some people to do their own research can be kind of annoying. If someone can't find out about it on their own, they're not likely to listen to the advice of others, IME

some people like the positive criticism that pro's can offer, why are u being so cranky about things you are already good at compared to people who are learning?

why do all you guys care???? google doesn't have all the answers and definitly isn't the most specific. If google was the answer for everything then there wouldn't be an Anandtech. Just try to remember back when you were a newb and were asking the same questions. Also sometimes members have helpful tips or good suggestions on motherboards etc. What kind if posts in GH do you guys complaining want?

Also the Anandtech search function doesn't work for crap so even if peopel used it, it wouldn't help.

I think the search engine is actually part of the problem. "x1900xt" only returns 3 results for me, even though I know there have been far more posts about it than that.

You don't even need a search function to find "Tell me what parts to buy" threads...
Just scroll down the page and read the titles

As of right now, there's six threads on Page 1 that could be lumped into "Rate My Build."

The thing that most people seem to forget is - since the questions are so similar, so are the solutions. Cut + Paste = Win. Occasionally you'll need to add or remove something based on the budget, but doing that probably takes just as much time as writing a whiny retort, and you get a warm fuzzy feeling from having helped a no0blet. 🙂

On the other hand, if the same no0blet keeps posting over and over, and refuses to take advice - then put the smack down on his candy ass. 😀
