2 pounds a week is a good rate.
Eat "better" foods. no white rice, no white bread, no normal pasta. Any starches you eat should be whole grain starches. This means no potatoes either.
Cut back on red meat. You can have all the beef you want, just no fat in the beef. It's easier if you stick with chicken (don't have dark meat, the thighs are very fatty) and fish.
Eat more fruits and vegetables. 9 servings a day, it'll make you feel fuller, and you'll be getting lots of vitamins and stuff.
ok, that's the easy part. the hard part is exercising at least 30 minutes a day. I'd recommend doing a little bit of strength training if possible. Building your lean body mass will help you burn more calories when you're not working out. The heart rate values that your eliptical tells you are silly. Go ahead and raise your heart rate above the "fat burning zone" you'll be burning a lower percentage of fat, but more fat overall.
Find someone to work out with, someone that will work out hard and make you want to work out hard too.
