i'm putting a computer together, with one video card (probably an R520) and one 3200+. one 250gb hard drive, two cd drives. 2 sticks of 512. do i really need a 450W PSU, or will 350 suffice?

350 watts is fine. Just make sure you have a strong 12v rail, I would say 20amp minimum.

Modern graphics cards and CPU draw their power off the 12v rail so it's important to pay particular attention there.

Voltage x amps = watts. 20 amps x 12v = 240 watts for the 12v rail, which is plenty for just about any single CPU non SLI system.

ok, great. i'll probably be getting one that's >400, so it looks good then. I'll take into account the bit about 12v, needless to say.

Quality > watts

Your system can be fine with a asus 300 w psu...

Never buy a bad quality psu taugh, whatever the power. It can fries...a lot of things...

running a 380watt antec tp 2, granted i dont have a monster of a vid card but i have 4 hds and overclocking on stock 1.35 voltage.
