Please help me to check, I was told that 550W is enough but Asus's supporting page told me that 600W is the minimum requirement. Please kindly verify.

MSI X58 Pro SLI X58 M/B
Intel Core i7 920 (2.66GHz) CPU/8M BOX
Corsair TR3X6G1333C9 DDR3 1333 6G Kit (2Gx3) 3-Channel Pack
Sapphire HD4890 PCI-E 1GB DDR5
Pioneer DVR-A17FXD1 20X DVD Writer
WD 640GB 6401AALS SATA II/32MB HDD

Thanks a lot folks

Well that dpends on exactly what 550W PSU you are planning to get, or already have
Do you plan to overclock?

A good 400w/450w PSU will do, but like Hoofan1 said, what PSU are you referring to? One that you already have or one that your going to get? In either case, we need to know which PSU your referring to.

Wow what the heck?

I'd get something in the 12V, 40A range then, which would be a quality 500w+ PS.

Antec Earthwatts.. 500W continuous?

That would give you 34A on the combined 12v rails. It should be more than enough for what he's building. It's going with an Antec Sonata case for $110 shipped right now at Newegg, so I'd jump on that if you need the case too!!

I like a 30% or better gap between what I need and max capability.

350w * 1.30 = 455w

455w/12V = 37.9A

37.9A would be my bare minimum for his system, which would be a dual rail 19A or single rail with 38A. Sure you can get away with less, but I consider the power supply to be one of the most important components in my system. Not to mention that the acoustics of running a power supply at 80%+ of its rated capacity are going to be far from ideal, especially if you're getting a Sonata case, which implies you care about noise.

I'd say you need around 500W from a good brand. Just to be safe and have a little headroom for the future, get the Corsair HX620.

First off, you don't just add up the amps on the 12v rails to get your total amperage. Second the Sonata case w/the Earthwatts PSU will do just fine, but it's up to you what you buy. If I wanted 40A on the 12v rails than I'd get the Corsair 650tx w/52A on the single 12v rail. It's going for $100 - $20 MIR at Newegg and this price is very hard to beat. Even the Corsair 550vx has 41A on the 12v single rail, but doesn't really cost that much less, hence the recommendation of the 650tx.

Someone suggested me to purchase Corsair VX550. But I doubt it is going to give me two 6 pin for my display card even though it is 550W and looks pretty satisfying. Is Corsair HX620 a good choice for me?

The Corsair 550vx comes with 1 x 6pin and 1 x 6+2 pin (8 pin if needed) PCI-e power connectors. This will handle any 2 x 6pin PCI-e power requirements that your looking for. Please do a little research before posting. The Corsair 620hx will do just fine, I just wanted to let you know you have other options that will/will not work for you.

Last time I checked on NewEgg that VX550 PSU had a 6 pin and a 8 pin. (the 8 pin can be separated into a 6 pin and 2 pin). So this PSU should fit your needs.

Which Sonata? Don't know about the Radeon 4890 that the OP will be using, but the Sonata Plus 550 and Sonata Designer 500 does not fit bigger graphics cards such as the GTX 260. I don't have experience with the other two Sonatas available (Sonata Elite and Sonata III 500) but those may work.
